I don't know about you guys, but whenever traveling around with the car I find that the GPS has a limited range of maps.
Looking around the Android market I found a nifty offline navigation app (freeware). Was able to directly download the maps to travel around most of western Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium) under 2Gb.
Size wasn't so much an issue, mini-SD card has 32Gb space.
Offline navigation by car from point A to point B works as expected regardless of country. An extra feature that I found useful is to find gas stations and supermarkets next to your location. Another unexpected feature was the 3D visualization, it actually populates the map with the buildings where you are passing. To some point helps to orientate better.
Other maps exist for global reach, certainly a keeper if traveling overseas.
Quirks
- Sometimes it didn't allow to type the house number. I can choose the street I want to find but couldn't pinpoint to house number. Not always was the case but happened two times.
- Maps are sometimes not very clear. For example, doesn't help to distinguish water from solid land.
- Voice indications need work. Sometimes
