This is interesting. I am curious to know if its possible to merge a Wifi internet connection and a LAN internet connection to get a higher speed.
Is is possible without any additional hardware ?
How to Combine Multiple Internet Connections Into One Super Fast Pipe
http://lifehacker.co...ne-s-1699431630
You may not realize it, but you probably use multiple internet connections every day: your home network, your phone, and even hotspots and other devices. The downside: you can usually only use one at a time. Imagine if you could combine them all into one huge pipe that delivers faster downloads, smooth streaming, and crisp video calls. Here’s how to do it, with a tool called Speedify.
Speedify isn’t free, though. Since it’s both software and a service, pricing is subscription based. You can try it for free for up to a 1GB just to see if it’ll work for you, and for the connections you have available to bond, but after that you can get 50GB for $9/month or $69/year, or unlimited data for $19/month or $149/year. It’s available for both OS X and Windows, and one license gets you an account you can use on multiple computers (for personal use.)
Similarly, using Speedify assumes you’re okay with all of your traffic being routed, unencrypted, through their servers. If that makes you a little nervous, you aren’t alone. In their defense, Speedify’s privacy policy and terms of service are on the up and up. They won’t store or collect data on their users or their sessions (although they may keep total bandwidth transferred per session) and they don’t keep personal information beyond what they need for billing.

PFSense??

Offers load balancing and traffic shaping locally, absolutely
- but not quite the same and misses the server-based components and features here.
Still though, at least PFSense is free. It’s all about whether those additional
features and the zero-config setup are worth paying for for you.

The security-minded side of me is like “no way man, this is ridiculous - and redundant when a VPN is in the picture” but the bandwidth-hungry side of me is like “hm, this is pretty cool.”

We have a bunch of Cisco RV series routers deployed that do the same thing.

Yeah, at my last job we have a bunch of Riverbeds that did pretty much the same thing too. Worked pretty well!
A bit costly. I'll stick with my single broadband.
How To Combine Two Wi-Fi Internet Connections
http://speedify.com/...et-connections/
If you’re trying to connect multiple Internet connections for faster speeds, note that your various connections must come from different Internet sources. For example, Wi-Fi and Ethernet networks that are connected to the same router cannot be combined for increased bandwidth using channel bonding applications like Speedify, because they both share the same upstream network.
How To Combine Multiple Internet Connections
http://www.techkhoji...et-connections/
I spent countless hours finding ways to merge my backup internet connection so I can utilize maximum speed but I could not find any reliable solution
Method #1 – TP-Link TL-R480T+ Load balancing Router [Recommended]
Method #2 – Use Windows 7, 8 based Load Balancing Technique [Free]
If you connect 2 internet connection to Windows at a time, the operating system automatically selects one connection as primary and uses others as as failover connection mode. You can force Windows 7, 8 to use both connections simultaneously using a simple trick.
Steps:
- Open Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
- Go to properties of any of your active Internet connection whether it be LAN, WiFi or 3G/4G.
- Select Internet Protocol TCP/IP Version 4, Open its properties, then go to advanced.
- Uncheck the Automatic Metric and type “15”.
- Repeat same steps on other Internet connections you want to combine.
- Restart your Computer.
Method #3 – Software Based Load Balancing [Unpredictable] (Speedify etc)
They perform the same function as the method #2 but they have ability to create hotspot using your newly combined connections. I discourage use of 3rd party software based load balancing because it uses a lot of resources and connection quality is not reliable moreover, the app is very expensive once the trial version is expired.
Useful information:
- The above mentioned method for combining connection only works with applications that support multiple connections.
- Combining internet connection speed does not improve PING/Latency, online gaming will be the same. Sorry folks.
- Logging-in your account using multiple connections can put you under suspicion as it uses multiple IP addresses to send same data packets.
Seems possible. But is the cost worth it?
