I'm Truong from Vietnam, I search google for usb multiboot iso and find bootland.
Thanks to bootland, i can make my usb multiboot from iso ;) ;)

Hi Truong , welcome in our community!

And when I understand you correctly, you are already a 'rather experienced user' after some hours of membership.

Congratulation for that! :)

#126036 Why Help is not invoked by pressing F1

Posted by pscEx on 31 March 2011 - 06:44 PM in Win7PE

Winbuilder has a good Help. Why Help is not invoked by pressing F1 ? It's all the same Winbuilder, not Unixbuilder :smiling9:

 When I anywhen will work on a new WinBuilder version, this will be included!

Soon we will be smarter. :white_flag:

Sorry, you misunderstood me.

 When I anywhen will work on a new WinBuilder version, this will be included!

I did not say that I intend to work on a new version ...

Here is an "anywhen". Currently I do not have any motivation to continue on WB development.

Maybe Galapo can explain in detail, why (in spite I do WB development since about version 052) since 081 RC1 in his opinion I'm a really unqualified developer.

If he gives a reply, maybe the following discussion can proof, that sometimes it is necessary to break compatibility in order to get progress.

#90941 HOW CAN RUN AVIRA RESUC DESK ISO IN AERO

Posted by pscEx on 09 February 2010 - 07:03 PM in Hello world!

Hallo asdwasd! (easy pattern to type on my keyboard after I realized the 'howto')

Welcome in our community.

BTW: I have some far personal connection to Egypt: The father of one of my sons in law is Egytian.

Now to your intention:

To ask here is the very wrong place.

The experts who can give you an answer, look very seldom into this 'Hallo' forum.

You have to search for a suited forum ( and I think that AeroStudio would be a good forum for that) and put the question there.

But please avoid the mistake many new members make: Look for the best place, but DO NOT DOUBLE POST IN DIFFERENT FORUMS!

Good luck

#161414 Files Copy: In Win7PE

Posted by pscEx on 09 October 2012 - 10:30 AM in Win7PE

The choice between "Full" and "Standard" has been set as "WIM type CD standard" by NightMan, when he published the first "WIM" project, namely VistaPE.

This "WIM type CD standard" has been used by all later "WIM" projects, of course with according changes in several scripts.

There is a third choice for Win7 sources.

The Win7 source CD contains WinRe.wim, which usually is used to rebuild a crashed host win7 system.
multiPE offers to use WinRe.wim as base for the win7pe.
Of course there is a small change that the booting PE does not start to rebuild the OS.

#143875 After adding scripts I have several Apps Folders.. Why?

Posted by pscEx on 08 December 2011 - 05:30 PM in Win7PE

That is caused by different levels of the added apps.

Look into the scripts at the [Main] section.
There is an entry "level=<number>"

Change <number> to the standard apps level of your project. You can query the "standard level" by looking into an original project's app at [main] level.

For me, it seems that a "like this" with comment is counted and displayed in the user's reputation, but it is not shown in the post itself.
In the post there seem to be shown only "like this" w/o comment.

#77928 Reinventing the Wheel

Posted by pscEx on 10 September 2009 - 07:30 PM in Development

Somebody (if I remember correctly, it has been Paraglider) already complained that 'every' project has it's own Tools directory.
If you downloaded e.g. mkisofs.exe with one project, the next project will demand a different mkisofs.exe and download again.

Senceful ???

But that is only a small inconvenience.

IMHO incinsistencies or / and redundances inside the different project's scripts are much more important.

I'll try to suggest ways to avoid.

The initial announcement of this issue I posted in the nativeEx forum..
As I know, inspite nativeEx is the root of many projects, the project itself is not very popular and rarelly read : nativeEx goes WIM

#160789 Variable not expanded in target registry

RegAddBoot,HKLM,0x2,SoftwareClasses*shellHxDcommand,,"#$q%PE_Programs%%ProgramFolder%%ProgramEXE%#$q #$q#$p1#$q"

Why 0x2? :dubbio:
All the %??% variables are passed by actual build time value, and there is no PE environment variable which has to be replaced.
Or maybe there is a PE environment variable in #1?

#144730 New (upload) issue

Posted by pscEx on 22 December 2011 - 07:42 PM in Site feedback

I uploaded a new item to the download portal.

It is just a command line app, therefore there is no screen shoot. And I did not attach a screen shoot to the upload.
When committing the app I got the message from the forums's software, that the recommended screen shoot is missing.
I added a screen shoot and have been successful in uploading my app.

But when trying to download it, I have the choice between two (appareantly identical) versions:

#136652 Lack of functionality of the Download Center

Posted by pscEx on 31 August 2011 - 05:42 PM in Win7PE

Thanks, Sevilho, for your reply.

Your initial posts have been (for me) rather agressive ("stupid developers"). Therefore I reacted ironic, and maybe a bit agressive, too.

Over all: There are some ideas in your post, which could improve WinBuilder Download.

As old man and friend of Mr. Alzheimer I sometimes forget some good ideas. Do not worry to remind me on next beta, when the 'Download' theme seems to be lost.

Peter

#136596 Lack of functionality of the Download Center

Posted by pscEx on 31 August 2011 - 07:55 AM in Win7PE

Now seriously:

The functionality you demand, already exists.

But the project author has to define the variables for every script.
  • Minumum, recommended, complete. These by design are not incremental, but 'including'
  • Level
Peter

BTW: When you found a bug in this functionality, please report in the corresponding forum.

#136467 Lack of functionality of the Download Center

Posted by pscEx on 29 August 2011 - 07:06 PM in Win7PE

Having such experience may disappoint you.

But it is not a misfeature / bug / ??? of the download center.

Clicking "minimal", "recommended", "complete" in the download centre, passes this option to a task exploring the updates.ini of the actual project.

And it is in the responsibility of the project's author to classify the information.

With a different project you may have a very different result.

#129528 Extract Timezone from Build HOST OS

Posted by pscEx on 26 May 2011 - 10:17 AM in Development

As per the discussion in this post there probably should be a way to get the local build host OS timezone settings and insert it into the PE. For languages where there is one timezone, this isn't necessary...but for those of us who use a language with many timezones, it can be a real pain to have the PE clocks always "wrong".

Here is a QnD (quick and Dirty) implementation. My guess is that projects will integrate this (or other ways to do the same thing)...

Scott

Thanks, Scott, for this helpful script!
It is included in the next publication of nativeEx_multiPE.

BTW: I agree to the "Dirty": In the description there is something about using LCID.exe. But I cannot find any use of it. :ranting2:

#152625 reboot hosting issue

Posted by pscEx on 16 April 2012 - 04:20 PM in Site feedback

I'm working with bringing multiPE downloadable by the WinBuilder download function.

When adding the server to the xdownload center, no contents are shown.

Trying to access the server with the browser tells me, that the bandwidth is exceeded. :frusty:

That is a nice hosting service which tells the second, third or ??? user, that he has to wait a bit until he can get something.
This user did not download anything before from this server and gets the message "TOO MUCH" :frusty:

I'm rebuilding everything back to my server.

#80780 wb078 sp2 download feature

Posted by pscEx on 03 October 2009 - 09:45 PM in Development

If you used Download at least once and want to check or download updates of new scripts,
After Clicking Download button, Also click green button upper left.

That is only necessary, when you suspect that in the time between your previous 'download visit' and 'now' something has changed.

But who wants to spend his time by periodically checking the server for new scripts?
As an engineer I think that once after WinBuilder start is enough.
And who wants to check periodically, has also time enough to click 'green arrow' after 'download'.

#98710 LiveXP - multiUser

Posted by pscEx on 23 April 2010 - 02:22 PM in Hello world!

Put this question in the LiveXP forum. AFAIK it is not provided yet, but I'm rather sure that somebody can help you with that.

#98706 LiveXP - multiUser

Posted by pscEx on 23 April 2010 - 01:41 PM in Hello world!

Hi Wallace!

First a 'Welcome' to our forum!

I hope I understand you correct:

There are 2 users using the same WinBuilder installation with the LiveXP project.
But they have different scripts included or different options in the script.

When the user starts WinBuilder, his personal options should be restored.

That is currently not possible with WinBuilder.

But LiveXP as nativeEx child perhaps has a solution:

The !WBManager.Script offers the possibility to switch between different project profiles.

If that is what you want, I can create a script "SetUser.Script" which uses the !WBManager.Script functionality to switch the options.

#130473 Is it possible to add App script without rebilding the project?

Posted by pscEx on 09 June 2011 - 07:46 AM in Win7PE

To add an app script once you have already built the project:

  • Open the Mount script located under the Debug folder and make sure Mount Point is set to %TargetDir% then press the Mount button under Mount PE (Target)
  • If your app script needs to copy files from your win7 source you will also need to press the Mount button under Mount Source
  • run your app script by pressing the small green play button on the app script interface
  • open the Mount script located in the Debug folder and press the Unmount All button
  • open the 4 - Create ISO script located under Finalize and press the Create New ISO button
you now can run the new iso in a VM or burn to CD/USB

regards,
Homes32

When you work with nativeEx_multiPE:

If, and only if, the AppScript needs access to *.wim:
After having added to the project do once:

Edit the added app script and write as first line in [Process]:

  • "MountBoot" when it needs boot.wim
  • "MountInstall" when it needs install.wim
  • "MountCD" when it needs both
Write "UnMountCD" as last line of [Process]

Run the app script
In PEFactory click "Process".

Posted by pscEx on 08 November 2009 - 09:58 PM in Win7PE

Therefore this issue is a real project author's responibility.

#130853 Is it possible to add App script without rebilding the project?

Posted by pscEx on 14 June 2011 - 09:03 PM in Win7PE

Now the link is accessable for me. To have the WIM in the %Target% (Which should be the source for creating the WIM) is a logical bug in the project.

Try nativeEx_multiPE.
When you have troubles to understand the (compared with VistaPE or Win7PE) much simpler logic, do dot worry to ask in the multiPE forum.

#153785 Upload troubles with screenshoots in download portal

Posted by pscEx on 06 May 2012 - 01:56 PM in Site feedback

Yesterday I uploaded a new version of multiPE.

Today I saw a big question mark as screenshoot. I was told that there is no screenshoot.

I tried to re-upload the screenshoot and got the replay that upload failed.

I defined a link to a screenshoot copy on my server, and that has been accepted.

Now the screenshoot in the download page is visible in small size and shown in full size on click, as intended.

But in the discussion topic it is shown in full size.

It depends on how patient your are.

There are some troubles with running WinBuilder on a 64 bit host OS (partly already solved).

If you do not mind to get troubles and help solving, you should install on 64 bit.

#118407 Win7pe_se bug

Posted by pscEx on 03 January 2011 - 04:44 PM in Win7PE

Addon:
There are some multiple quotes which also bring both WB versions to wrong output.

Win7pe_SE\Tweaks\Display.script(799): reg_add,0x1,%reg%\ControlSet001\services\vga\Device0,""Device Description"","Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"
Win7pe_SE\Addons\NotePad.script(46): RegWrite,"HKLM",0x1,"Tmp_software\Classes\*\shell\%pTextBox1%\command","","notepad.exe ""%1"""

The first just must have single quotes around "Device Description"
The second should be: "notepad.exe #$q%1#$q".

#118412 Win7pe_se bug

Posted by pscEx on 03 January 2011 - 06:05 PM in Win7PE

Is there a new syntax contol in WB81? I have no error message or warning on these lines in the WB80 log.

Direct answer: NO. I found the issues by comparing two built PEs, one with WB 80 and the other with WB 81.

The issue is with 080 as well with 081: These syntax error internally build some "WB engine acceptable" arguments which are processed. And because the arguments are accepted, no error message appears in both cases.

Unfortunatelly the arguments are not resonable, therefore pure garbage is produced.
And also unfortunatelly, such syntax errors cannot be detected by the engine.
Some month ago I tried to introduce some syntax changes which require a couple of escapes. These syntax rules would be able to detect errors like the current one.

But the suggestion has not been accepted by .script developers (To be honest: I personally would not accept it, too. The script code lines become too cryptic and unreadable).

So we have to live with the situation that WB cannot detect every wrong written command, and sometimes does what it assumes to be done, even if there is an syntax error in the back.

BTW: Congratulations for your update!

Peter

#118403 Win7pe_se bug

Posted by pscEx on 03 January 2011 - 02:36 PM in Win7PE

I'm currently doing compatibility tests between WB 080 and WB 081.
With these tests I found a syntax bug in the above script in [WriteSettings]
There are several lines like:
If, ... ,RegWrite,"HKLM",0x3,"WB-default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2,"Settings",28,00, ...
Here the quote behind StuckRects2 is missing.

That leads to wrong entries in the registry.
BTW: Here is no compatibility. The two versions write different nonsence:

080: ... StuckRects2,,00,28,00,00, ...
081: ... StuckRects2,""Settings,"28",00,00, ...
should be: ... StuckRects2,Settings,28,00,00, ...

BTW2: Here is NO quote necessary.

#136704 Multi Version of windows questions

Posted by pscEx on 01 September 2011 - 10:58 AM in Win7PE

When you boot a PE (not only win7pe_se, it can be every PE1, PE2, PE3), the PE does not have explicit knowledge about the host's OS.

But every PE1 / PE2 / PE3 can access the host's NTFS / FAT / FAT32 file system.

Maybe in case of some very new ATA disk drives in PE1 / PE2 you need additional drivers. PE3 usually has 'all' drivers.

You should be able to start portable apps from USB directly .

Some projects provide a way to generate shortcuts to these portables.

#155024 *.ini association mystery.

Posted by pscEx on 22 May 2012 - 04:03 PM in Development

In multiPE I created a notepad++ script and associated *.ini, *.txt, *.log with it.

While this works fine in a PE2 and PE3, in a PE1 it works with *.txt and *.log only.
For *.ini Notepad.exe is used.

When I check wit RegEditWB, all command lines are defined correctly when building the target:

"...NotepadPPNotePad++.exe" "%1"

In the running PE1 in the registry the command for *.ini is just "notepad.exe %1"

I need your experience with that.
Do you know whether explorer during boot sets some defaults?
If yes, how can I avoid this "feature"?

How can I remove the red "broken" tag from the heading of the project page?

First a 'Welcome'!
'As usual' a new member has some troubles. But that is no issue. me and other members are ready to help.

For me it looks like that
  • Your project is incomplete
    Re-Download
  • In %BaseDir%\Source there is no valid source CD copy.
Click in WinBuilder main window the tab 'Source' and define the path to your source CD.

Now I get:

I'm currently trying to find the 'root' and a solution.

#117808 Merry Christmas!

Posted by pscEx on 25 December 2010 - 11:07 PM in News

Many people think about Christmas as the time for Santa Claus, exchanging presents and the Christmas tree.
However. Where I live, this time of the year is not about presents or religious beliefs but rather about the once-in-a-year chance of passing some quality time with family during the coldest season of the year.

I was thinking about a similar message.
I addition to your message, for me it is also important that chrismas is religiously interpreted as the birthday of Jesus Christus.

And to all of you thinking similar than me, and also to all others: Merry Christmas!

#76604 WinBuilder 078

Posted by pscEx on 31 August 2009 - 04:36 PM in Development

This has been a long time of development, including a lot of changes, discarding the changes, rebuild the changes, etc.

Thanks to all developers for their help, suggestions, tests, etc.

And also (seriously meant) thanks to Lancelot for starting WW3 with me. That helped me to think about some necessary user needed fundamentals.

This new version of WinBuilder (besides a lot of bug fixes and new commands) is thought to help the developer to create 'cooperative scripts'. That means to create scripts which do not disturbe information other scripts wrote previously.

Generally: All of these 'features' are switched off by default, but can be activated by the developer.
Therefore, if you build your PE after upgrading from WB 076 to 078 the log should show no warnings (?)

Overwrite warnings:

All single operations which overwrite something existent, are shown in the log as warning.
This concerns to
  • FileCopy,
  • CopyOrExpand
  • Expand
  • Extract (all 4 possibilities)
  • FileCreateBlank
  • RegWrite
The mechanism is switched off with wildcards, e.g. when using "FileCopy *.exe"

By default, the warning is given, and the individual value is overwritten.

This can be influenced by using two parameters optionally at the end of the command line:
  • NOWARN: When overwriting, no warning is shown in the log
  • PRESERVE: If there is 'something', it is not overwritten, but a warning is given in the log
  • NOWARN,PRESERVE or PRESERVE,NOWARN: The existing item is not overwritten, and no hint about this is given in the log
The 'NOWARN' can be defined in the project (default NOWARN), or in individual scripts (default no NOWARN).
You can define it in the GUI editor under the 'Desciption' tag. There is a checkbox 'No Warning' (maybe translated to local language) in the upper right.

Integrity check

Script developers now have the (proprietary) possibility to mark their script with a 'Certification'

The log marks whether the script is
  • not certified
  • unchanged
  • changed (of course changes like select / deselect or changing interface options are overseen)
This is shown by a ( ), (+) or (?) in the top script listing.

Debug log

If a user asks for support in the forum and appends a log, he / she should use the 'Debug Log'.
That can be switched on in 'Tools >> Options >> Debug Log' in the middle right.

As a result, the log shows 'everything important' including skipped "System,ERROR,OFF", all warnings, etc.

New commands:

Please look at the help. (Also not yet updated, I need some other 5 Latin minutes ...)

Samples of most of the new features can be seen in the nativeEx_barebone project.

Peter

I noticed how, besides some native English speaking new members that are obviously facilitated in reading and understanding about the Hello World section, Germans appeared lately as fulfilling the request nicely, something that a lot of people simply fails to do.

Maybe it's not because they are German, only because they are more attentive or accurate than other members.

Or maybe because they share some Vulcanian heritage:

#100912 New Member CMS

Posted by pscEx on 25 May 2010 - 03:47 PM in Hello world!

To complete some experiences:

At that 1965's I studied at RWTH Aachen.

And at that time paper for lesson scripts, calculations, etc. was rather expensive for a student.

What to do:

Go into the TH's IT center (Fortran only), punch some cards with reasonable code, but forget the dot at the end of an integer!

Give it into the queue to be processed.

After a while (If the queue was not too large, after 10 minutes, if the queue was large, after several hours) in your box you got the result: hundreds of sheets of paper with the error dump.

But the backs of these sheets were empty!

Peter

BTW (or better: Mainly) Welcome, CMS!

I can't believe it, but at moment it seems I'm the only one who cannot run nativeEx_barebone with the new version 25 of 'CopyAndExpand.script' (or I am the only one who is running nativeEx_barebone every now and then  ).

Regards,

Sorry for your inconvenience!

You use WB 077 RC1, and as to be seen from the project page, RC 2 is needed.
The error occurs, because a new function of RC 2 is used which is not yet implemented in RC1:

Extract a file out of a *.cab WB internally, w/o using external program 'Extract.exe'

#118893 Boot from CD

Posted by pscEx on 10 January 2011 - 02:26 PM in Grub4dos

Thanks, Sbaeder, but my intention is "one level lower"

I'm looking for a functionality like this:
Before Grub4dos boots from a device, it asks whether to boot or not.
If the answer is "No", boot device is changed to the next device in the BIOS boot order list.
(And maybe the MBR causes boot with M$)

EDIT: Now I understand your suggestion completelly! (Sorry for the delay) Maybe I can reach what i'm intenting ...

#118846 Boot from CD

Posted by pscEx on 09 January 2011 - 06:29 PM in Grub4dos

"Standard" ISOs can have the bootfix.bin file.

That causes, that the CD as primary boot device does not automatically boot, but asks:
"Hit any key to boot from CD"

Is there a similar functionality available in Grub4dos?

#158357 Tips for a good recovery/rescue Build

Posted by pscEx on 27 July 2012 - 02:43 PM in Win7PE

I started with multiPE but it doesnt offer what i am looking for. For example the registry editor only edit the registry on the Live System. Why should i edit this?

I need a registry editor to edit the guest system.

On every Live System you can edit the host's registry by mounting it's hive(s) from registry editor, like as you mount a remote hive from your host PC.
When you want to edit the target registry before building the ISO, in multiPE you can use RegEditWB in Tools.

Then i need 1-3 Antivirus Engines with a possibility to live Update and Restore the Virus definitions on the Live-USB-Stick. Like Defender offline.

Unetbootin can create a persistent live system in ubuntu. Is a persistent system possible with Winbuilder?

And i need some system tools: User Account password reset (like the MSDART tool), Testdisk(photorec) or Recuva to rescue lost and erased Data.

Do you think its possible to do this stuff with winbuilder?

Yes, it is. The result depends on your qualities as script developer.

Peter

#158405 Tips for a good recovery/rescue Build

Posted by pscEx on 28 July 2012 - 01:26 PM in Win7PE

WinPE is not persistent, which is why I like it. Build it to how you need it, and it will stay that way. Can't really make changes on-the-fly.

For CD / DVD you are 100 % right.
For UFD you are for 50% right.
  • Changes in the WIM image in RAM are lost on reboot.
  • But you can save new virus definitions persistant on UFD, provided the AV app accepts a directory there.

#71822 WB 077 RC2 Release Notes

Posted by pscEx on 15 July 2009 - 12:05 PM in Development

Some additional informations:

When you build an existing project with WB 077 RC2 for the first time, you propably will get a couple of errors and warnings.

Errors: That is not a WB bug, that is an enhancement.
Sample (imdisk.script, written by me  )

Posted Image RegWrite - Type: [0x3] Section [HKLM\WB-Setup\ControlSet001\Control\Lsa] Key [Bounds]: 0030000000200000

If you look at the syntax description:

  • 0x3 - Binary data - adds data in binary format. Each byte is specified by groups of two digits splitting each value with commas

WinBuilder 076 and older here silently wrote the wrong value '00'.
Now an error is generated and gives the author the possibility to correct his / her mistake.

BTW: If you want to have a look at the old syntax description (up to 074):
You can find it here: http://winbuilder.ne...syntax.old.html

Warnings: They are generated
  • when an existing registry entry is going to be changed
  • when an existing file is going to be overwritten by a file with different MD5
  • when a FileCreateBlank is going to delete an existing file
These warnings can be supressed by
  • The NOWARN parameter in the script command line (like explained in the help)
  • Suppressing warnings for the whole script: Checking the 'No Warning' in the script editor > Descriptions, just below the 'Mandatory'
This makes sence for scripts which intentionally change a lot of registry values, like 'Display Properties'
  • Suppressing warnings for the whole project: Checking the 'No Warning' of script.project
Note: A higher level (project, script) NOWARN cannot be deactivated in a lower level (script, command)

Debug Log:
For debug purposes a special debug log.html can be created:
In Tools > Options check 'Debug log' in the middle right.
This will:
  • Inactivate all NOWARN
  • Inactivate all System,ERROROFF
  • Inactivate an eventually set 'Halt on Error'
  • Additionally show Deletes as warnings
Syntax Warnings
There are two types of syntax warnings
  • Syntax was not valid:
There is something wrong, e.g. quotes insides quotes, but propably (not guaranteed!) the command has been processed as intended
  • Unrecognized command:
The command has not been processed.

What about in your prog to decide whether it is CD / DVD or HDD?

DeviceIoControl(?, 0x2D1080, ...) gives 7 for HDD, 2 for CD and 0x33 for DVD?

I'm maybe stupid, but wouldn't that only work, if the PE would be run directly from the media?
For a wim based PE, wouldn't the media always be HDD?

:D

I use this decision in nativeEx_multiPE, and I did not found a situation right now, where it does not help.
