Building one of these chm files actually takes quite a bit of work from my past exeprience with them, I think I was using a tool by microsoft to make one of my first files of this type, but it's not quite as easy as creating a word documentation or a pdf lol.

No the hard work is in creating the content of the chm file. Using alternate mechanisms for delivering the content makes no difference to the huge amount of work that is required. Creating the chm file once you have the content is relatively easy using the MS tools ( just need to create the index ).

In some ways using Google code makes creating the content easier as its very limited in functionality. So you spend the time in writing the documentation instead of fighting html and styles.

I suppose that's why I found it so hard, is that I was building the index and table as I went along lol. I suppose it would be a lot less time consuming if you had that "chart" pictured out and the content in that chart all pre-written.

Ohh, I wasn't aware that there was a program to automate all that manual stuff haha. I'll go check this out, thanks a lot for the link. I was thinking I could have created something like this, but now there's no real need for it... Good idea though. Hopefully chm creation will be a lot easier after taking a look through this

The only real "trick" and "sort of a hack" so far is that the code for doing the TOC. While the MS tool uses a list structure, it has some unique MS constructs...I took the QnD (Quick and Dirty) approach of just doing some manipulation of the list we manage on the wiki. And thge buld of the java code to convert the html google generates into a form we can use was already written - just needed fine tuning.

But, totally agree that the hard part is in creating and organizing the content, and yes, hopefully this wiki approach can let us do a better job!

REMINDER - Still looking for folks who are willing to help out! If interested, send me a PM, and we can get you involved!
