The 2.5" USB 2 and e-SATA enclosure I had my 500GB Samsung HM500JI in turns out to be no good and it was causing Ultra DMA CRC Error Count to increase every time I used it. Since connecting the drive directly by SATA, the Count hasn't increased.
So I want to get another enclosure that will work properly with my drive but it's hard to tell which of them will be OK. I've seen this one for £7.69 which says it's compatible with drives up to 500GB http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19c3915ab6
and this one for £11.47 which says it has no upper size limit

Would either of those be likely to be OK or are there some others that you can recommend?

I have no experience of USB/eSata caddies, but I would go for a USB 3/eSata caddy (if you can find one). USB 3 peripherals tend to be faster than USB 2 ones (even on a USB 2 port) and as they will be tested at high speeds, they should have a better chance of better data integrity, etc.

I haven't seen any USB 3/e-SATA caddies unfortunately. I don't really need USB 3 speed as most of the time I'd use it at home via e-SATA, so the USB is only needed for when I take it somewhere else that doesn't have e-SATA.

ZALMAN ZM-VE200 SE
2.5” USB2.0 External HDD Case
+
eSATA Direct HDD Access (eSATA cable not included)
+
Replaces existing CD/DVD drive or player with the use of any ISO files
With "nonames" eSATA enclosures, i had bad experience (not detected when plugged after OS boot).
ZM-VE200 SE is very reliable.

Thanks guys but I don't really want to pay that much for features (Virtual Drive, LCD Display) that are of no interest to me.
