Thanks to "Gerd" in Germany, and his amazing work creating a program called "USBoot", complete with it's own driverguards and emulation driver, I've managed to get a complete, running Windows XP Pro on my 2GB flashdrive. One of USBoot's mods cripples Windows XP's ability to identify the flashdrive it's running from as such, it appears as a normal hdd. USBoot also cripples the hardware ID functions, so that it will (or at least has for me, 100%, anway) boot and run on ANY pc that supports booting the USB drive from the hard drives menu. It was actually a considerable ammount of work, though, so I made an image that I can use to "stamp" out a copy whenever I need to.

Can you say hexadecimally military wipe all the drives installed, without removing them, or the pc, from the same machine you are wiping? I sure can.

I agree that USboot by Gerd Ros is a great program, finally easy to use (documentation to be improved however).
I have to amend your affirmation a little. I also had an usbooted HDD made from a PC with IDE disk). While it boots OK from another machine with SATA disks, it does not see the SATA hard disks. Same problem for other different hardwares, chipsets etc... So you have to have pre-installed drivers.

A best solution is to use BTS Driver packs:

This way, your USB HDD will be almost universal and can run on most machines.
