As mentioned earlier today, we are releasing the third beta of KAPE, build 128, with the following changes:

- Added support for operating under 64bit editions of Windows. This includes proper registry calls for 64bit systems, and a warning if the wimgapi.dll isn't located and suggests the file to be copied
- Cleaned up the location of project, iso, and wim folders, which now defaults to subfolders under current directory.
- Added options for running command and executable tasks in the following instances: after the Wim file is dismounted, directly before the ISO is created, and after the ISO is created.
- Removed Replication options. Standard API copy commands fail when copying a file to the mounted Wim which already exists in the Wim. Currently in research mode.
- The View menu item now includes options to open the Mount folder, ISO folder, Log files, ISO target folder, and custom Wim folder.
- Delete existing project properly implemented.
- Other miscellaneous cleanup

Thanks

Hello jjjjoseph,
I haven´t yet downloaded your winpe builder as I have been using Wimb builder for quite a while ( http://www.boot-land...showtopic=10250 ) which is pretty decent for one who wants just a quick Windows 7 winPE build.

If you have used this Wimb builder can you tell me the differences with the one you are creating? I know for starters that you mentioned your builder works with PE 1.x 2x and 3x so I guess it works with XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

the wimb builder still has a few bugs when you try to build a Windows 7 x64 infrastructure.

Any comments would be appreciated.

rocketero.

Houston, we've had a problem. :w00t:

Link is not working anymore.
File is not re-distributable.

BTW also the "main" KAPE and the new freeware CLI edition of MBRwizard 3.x are NOT re-distributable. :w00t:

A very foolish way of licensing freeware. :

As demonstrated by this issue, if and when a link breaks, everyone needing any of it - otherwise freely available, is stuck. :ranting2:

Does NOT work in my Windows 7 64-bit Windows.

I installed WAIK as it asked the first time I launched KAPE, then after mounting WIM and trying to generate the ISO it tries for a while but then pops up this window saying:

THERE WAS A PROBLEM CREATING THE WinPE ISO FILE.

but does NOT say why.

Also I tried to inject several drivers (multiple and single) and ALL failed to inject, also no reason why

The project folder is now 988 MB in size as it did NOT dismount the WIM.

Any fixes on this would be appreciated.

P.S
I downloaded the latest version of Kape from http://firesage.com/

I even run it as 'Administrator' just in case, and it fails to generate ISO and dismount WIM.

There are a couple of WinPE projects here in reboot.pro that I have tried and have generated WinPE ISO's with almost not intervention like the project WINPE SE ( http://reboot.pro/12427/ ) and other with some minor changes to incorporate more programs/drivers/change resolution called Make_PE3 ( http://reboot.pro/11852/ )

I'll keep an eye on this kape winpe project to see what changes have to do to make it work/run successfully.

regards.

Hi Wonko,

We played with different options for sharing and distributing the freeware products, but found that most of the support requests we receive are due to outdated versions being downloaded from other sites. While we understand your frustration and complaint, we feel our limited resources are better spent improving the product and addressing actual user disk problems, rather than troubleshooting problems fixed ages ago.

Regarding the broken link, this clearly shows that we don't failover nicely when new versions are released and the old build is removed. I have added this to our list of web enhancements, which should be released in the next week or so.

I appreciate your comments, this helps us better understand where we need to improve.

Hi Wonko,

While we understand your frustration and complaint, we feel our limited resources are better spent improving the product and addressing actual user disk problems, rather than troubleshooting problems fixed ages ago.

If you want I can suggest you to put up a standard e-mail in auto-reply to the effect of:

Dear Customer/User.
we just received your request for support.
Since most of such request come from people that find our apps in an outdated/deprecated version, should you by any chance be using ANY version below:

  • KAPE x.xx
  • Another thing y.yy
  • yet anther thing z.zz

you are kindly requested to update to current version available here:
www.somewhere.on.firesage.com
and try again.
If you are already using latest version above, please re-issue your request for support to the address:
current_version@firesage.com
Please note how the object field MUST contain BOTH the program name AND the latest version of it, otherwise your e-mail will be shredded automatically by the mail server, and we will have no way whatsoever to ever see it.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have any sadistic attitude, you may want to make the program name CaSe SeNsItIvE... :diablo:
(just an idea, of course :))

Regarding the broken link, this clearly shows that we don't failover nicely when new versions are released and the old build is removed. I have added this to our list of web enhancements, which should be released in the next week or so.

Naaah, dont't take it too seriously, the missing link is just a glitch in the Matrix :w00t:.

I appreciate your comments, this helps us better understand where we need to improve.

Appreciate may be a big word :), but you are very nice in saying so. :)

I fixed the problem by unzipping the kape file again and starting from zero, this time it ran, but by examining the final ISO I realized that this is not what I was looking for as it does not have any Windows Shell (explorer, bs-explorer, qdir, etc) to work with, also no GUI, Apps or GUI Admin tools. So far I'm happy with what I have created with the WINPE SE project and the Make_PE3 project

WinPE SE = http://reboot.pro/12427/
Make_PE3 = http://reboot.pro/11852/

Thanks anyway for your efforts.

Hi,

First off, I'd like to thank you for a convenient program. This saves alot of time.

I would like to see an option for changing the scratch-space, some computers have problems when there is not enough ram-drive left.

The command using dism.exe is:

dism.exe "/Image:mount" /Set-ScratchSpace:64

The 64 may be changed up to 512 i think in standard incrementations, ex, 64, 128, 256, 512.

A dropdown menu would do the trick in KAPE or a text-field where you can set it yourself.

Again, thank you for this timesaver
