Could we have a grub2 forum made at the same level as http://reboot.pro/fo...-boot-anywhere/

Perhaps also with two sub-sub-forums

a1ive grub2 and grubfm

Ventoy

With UEFI-only BIOSes now appearing, grub2 is going to be very important and surely deserves it's own sub-forums?

I would vote in favour for these new forum sections.

Yep, all three of them are (or will soon be) needed, the only possible issue is the possible confusion between GRUB2 (main sub-forum) and A1ive's GRUB2 (sub-sub-forum):

reboot.pro
→ Boot methods & tools
→ Boot from USB / Boot anywhere
→ GRUB2

→ GRUB2 →A1ve's GRUB2 & grubfm

→ GRUB2 →Ventoy

or (IMHO better):

→ Boot methods & tools
→ Boot from USB / Boot anywhere
→ GRUB2

 →A1ve's GRUB2 & grubfm

→ Ventoy

I have no strong preference about groupings

Can this be another choice?

reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Grub2
reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Grubfm
reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Ventoy

or this:

reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Grub2 & Grubfm
reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Ventoy

or just this:

reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Grubfm
reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Ventoy

grub2 is not the same as a1ive grub2. It is important to differentiate the two!

The official grub2 branch as used by many Linux OS's is about a decade behind the improvements made in a1ives' grub2.

The developers of the official grub2 are very resistant to any changes or improvements, whereas a1ive is very open to making much needed changes to his branch of grub2. Consequently  grub2 and 'a1ive grub2' are VERY different!

It's years that I wait, now it is the right time to call GRUB2:

GRUB2-obsolete :w00t:

and a1ive's GRUB2:

GRUB2-the-real-thing.  :whistling:

And yes, besides the confusing names elsewhere (as the GRUB2 guys call GRUB2 GRUB and real GRUB GRUB legacy), at least here we must be very attentive as to NOT mix the two.

@steve6375

@wonko

I get it.

Well, because grub2 is obsolete, I think it is unnecesarry to include a subforum for it. Use Grub2-alive instead.

Well, no, we have this occasion to show the good Linux guys, you know the ones that for years called openly or covertly GRUB as GRUB-legacy and thought that grub4dos was a heresy being GRUB2 the one and only truth (in their perverted mind) that there is a "bad" GRUB2 (the one that they use and worship) and a "better" one (A1ive's version).

So, when (if) they will happen to need some of the features of A1ve's version we wil be able to tell them "Wrong forum, post your question on the GRUB2 one instead" or - viceversa - "Wrong bootmanager, use A1ive's version instead". ;)

Now, seriously, every bootmanager has its own dignity, and deserves a dedicated forum for its users :), the trouble is - as always - the possible confusions with the names, that are actually confusing (let alone different versions, different builds and the various specific distro's changes/enhancements/whatever).

Only make new this one as given below is the least confusing and we have inside the topics a1ive Grub2 and Ventoy

reboot.pro → Boot methods & tools → Boot from USB / Boot anywhere→ Grub2

And will continue with the mess...

Everyone will post GRUB2 questions/issues related to A1ive's GRUB2 in the parent forum, and about Grubfm *anywhere*.

We have to recognize that A1ive's GRUB2 and Ventoy are something distinct BUT with the same dignity as grub4dos and GRUB2 (and thus deserve the same "level") whilst (still IMHO) Grubfm needs to be "inside" or "below" or "together with" A1ive's GRUB2.

Of course if we could rename - say - A1ive's GRUB2 to GRUBNG (Next Generation) or *whatever* simple and distinctive it would be easier to avoid the confusion.

And after 2 weeks the subforums hasn't been created yet.

The idea of Grub2 subforum is considered as being complicated .....

A simple Grub2 subforum with all topics related to Grub2 such as Ventoy and a1ive Grub2 FileManager can be a working solution ....

Without these meaningful topics the Grub2 subforum will remain almost empty .... and than it makes no sense to have a Grub2 subforum

I don't see why complicate things here, this is MHO:

grub2 subforum - May contain grub2 subjects not belonging to following two sub-subforum.

agFM sub-subforum - Only for a1ve agFM and related subjects.

Ventoy sub-subforum - Only for Ventoy and related subjects.

Just to start, latter if/when required new sub-subforums could be added.

But I think it is better to start now and don't wait to have a bunch of info that will make things more difficult letter when organizing it in new subforum.

I guess if anyone posts in wrong sub-forum then the thread can easily be moved and we can move current threads on Ventoy and a1ive as a start?

Grub2 sub forum created.

I have not (yet) created sub forums below Grub2.
