As discussed in the Is VistaPE Dead thread, I've put together a package intended for a user to download and get an updated and useful VistaPE that works "out-of-the-box", includes a wide variety of functionality, and has been updated so as to make future API updates and additions easier. Well, I've completed my first cut at it, and here it is for others to try and comment on.

Requires WinBuilder 076 or higher. Also tested with WinBuilder 077 RC1.

Here's the changelog for VistaPE RC1a:

Project files:
  • Added variables: %ProjectInfo% (=%VistaInfo%), %PECfg% (=%VPECFG%), %PECfgCD% (=%VPECFG%), %PE_CFG% (=%VPE_CFG%), %GlobalSupport%, %GlobalTemplates%, %ProjectTemplates%, %ProjectCache%, %GlobalTemp%, %ProjectTemp%, %OsType%.
  • Modified variable %TempFolder% to equal %ProjectTemp%.
  • Replaced all references to %VistaInfo%, %VPECFG%, %VPECFG%, and %VPE_CFG% with references to the new names. The old variables remain in place in case user scripts are using them.
  • Added VistaPE API commands to the Maqic Wand in WinBuilder.
  • Straightened out shell selection, wo works for all shells listed in main configuration.
  • Replaced all uses of the ReadEnv API command with "IniRead...". The command remains in place in case user scripts are using it.
  • Many fixes for spurious warnings.
  • Fixed a few spelling errors.
Application scripts:
  • Added HijackThis! 2.02 (with Runscanner 1.0.0.23).
  • Added HijackThis! Hotkey 3.0.
  • Added Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2.
  • Updated Avira Antivirus (now with its internal update working at runtime!)
  • Added Sophos antivirus command-line scanner
  • Updated 7-zip to 4.65 (slight modification of saydin77's script).
  • Added Recuva 1.28.424.
  • Added MBRFix 1.09.
  • Updated HDDScan to 3.2.
  • Updated System Information Viewer to 4.00.
  • Updated System Information for Windows to build 2009-05-12 freeware multilanguage.
  • Updated Partition FInd and Mount to 2.31.
  • Added SC-Diskinfo 1.11 (disk space usage visualization).
  • Added A43 2.53 file manager.
  • Updated Cubic Explorer to 0.90.0.1131.
  • Added Super Finder XT 1.6.1.1 (with language choices ... but I don't see Turkish unless it's listed in Turkish).
  • Added Unstoppable Copier 3.56.
  • Added Y-copy 1.0d.
  • Added FileZilla 3.2.6.1.
  • Updated SumatraPDF to 0.9.3.
  • Added NirSoft's Regscanner 1.7.7.0 (Lancelot's script).
  • Added Paraglider's RegShot 1.8.2.
  • Updated MiTec WIndows Registry Recovery to 1.4.0.
  • Updated DiskCryptor to 0.7.
  • Updated TrueCrypt to 6.2a.
  • Added Paraglider's Runscanner 1.0.0.23.
  • Added NirSoft's Produkey Key Finder 1.35.
  • Updated Dependency Walker 2.2.
  • Updated System Explorer to 1.5.
  • Updated Universal Extractor to 1.6.
  • Added Unlocker 1.8.7.
Other OS:
  • Updated Memtest 86+ 2.11.
  • Updated Parted magic Linux to automatically download and use the latest version.

Updated version of JonF's package available on galapo.net/VistaPE-CAPI , download with winbuilder using galapo.net/VistaPE-CAPI server to get latest version.

Great work!

One question:
Can you add 'Ask_Licence' to VistaPE API?

The plan, such as it is, is for Pedro Le to make a new Common_API script that will replace the VistaPE API (and the Win7PE API and maybe even the LiveXP API) in the somewhat near future. This depends on the WinPE7 crew implementing some of the variable changes that I implemented in this update. And, of course Pedro getting the time to do it.

But for that reason I'm not intending to make any big changes to the existing API script. Unless the plan changes.

Hi JonF,

minor questions:
*
Is the package an update for the existing "VistaPE-Core" ?
with other words, first i will download "vistape.net/project" than i will extract & overwrite the package , right ?
Reason i ask is:
There is "Addons\TC" folder exists but no TotalCommander.script around.

*
There are some folders including files which I guess not necessary in the package.
"Addons\TC"
"App\File Tools\CubicExplorer"
"App\Registry\WRR"
"Base\system32"

ps: trying to use right foot before entering

TotalCommander.script exists in App\File Tools.Also totalcmd.exe in Addons\TC is only 5 bytes in length.

The package can be used without an existing VistaPE-Core. You do not have to download anything else, other than WinBuilder itself.

If you fold it into an existing VistaPE-Core installation, you may see those folders. Now that VistaPE has the %GlobalTemplates% folder, I followed "good practice" by having those programs which stored themselves in subdirectories of the script directory changed to store themselves in %GlobalTemplates%\%ProgramFolder% (or something close to that, in teh case of Avira). The first three folders you list are in that category and are no longer needed; you can safely delete them.

Base\System32 is extracted from 07-config.script and is re-created in every build.

thanks, the freeware collection included is very interesting into a newbie perspective, and also it is a good start point for other mod  for example I suggest to include some TC plugins (that are free to use)(like registry, Image, and others) to increase rapidly the opportunity to recover and manage unrecoverable system

In my view there is too much included. The download is 80mb. That's far too much.

Thanks paraglider,
when comparing files some reorganisation (which are nice) mistaken me. ;)

ps: Sometimes decreasing size maynot be that easy with none-core projects. Giving Example with LiveXP: with "LiveXP Extra" idea we managed not to add all nice scripts to project and mostly omit AV scripts, but still we have a huge project. For now: minimum: 80MB recommended: 125MB, complete: 250MB. Yep one big reason is "apps" but there are also other reasons. Also to decrease the "first touch" download size we pack only "recommended" for distribution. For now that's what we've done to keep in the range below 150MB. ;) Since goal is making a rescue build (cd..) with very useful applications it increase the size which we are trying to limit  .

Thank you a lot JonF,
I deleted them, made some tests and made some minor addings than everything works smoothly with x64 ;)
After first test, I unselect all antivir./spyw. (a bit boring for my slow connection ;) ) and PartedMagic to make faster builds.

By the "shock" emergency cure you made (thanks a looot ;) ) I feel VistaPE is becoming more alive ;)

With some ideas and detailed findings, I will post soon ;)

80 mb for a package that allow to edit registry, manage files, modify servicies and drivers, is big probably, "because sometimes the size does matter" (It was the ACE compression slogan)

I will consider some TC plugins ... how does one download and install them?

The package as it stands is capable of doing a lot of suystemn repair and recovery, except for for doing a System Restore on an XP system. I might add a program that restores the XP registry from a restore point, but not the files ... that has been known to work.

I would like to cut it down by downloading more files instead of packing them. IMHO the programs included are near the bare minimum for a robust rescue CD.

Please dont, this kills the portability of the project. As i wrote before complete size of the project looks very good to me.

Currently recommended size of this project is 62MB and I guess with changing the status of somes scripts (ex: spybot to complete (Download_Level=2)-->20MB, 62-20=42MB, superfinder -->4MB, 42-4=38) it will lower a lot.

I haven't paid much attention to donload levels ... if and when it ever goes to a Winbulider download I would probably make some changes.

The VistaPE RC1a project is now available on winbuilder.net. The server name is vistape.winbuilder.net. To add it, on WinBuilder's download page click the "Add a new web server"button to the right of the list of web servers.

A few scripts have been slightly updated since the first release of RC1a.

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

The Applications folders have been completely reorganized to match the LiveXP organization. If you just blindly download you will be very sad. First move any scripts you have added somewhere else, delete the %BaseDir%\Projects\VistaPE-Core\App folder and everything in it, download any apps you want from the server, and then add your apps back in.

It does not matter much. It needs at least 076. I am using 077, but the project does not use any special features of 077.

I've added a VistaPE-CAPI project ... VistaPE COmmon API.

This project uses Pdro Le's Common API (currently version 6.3).

It requires WinBUilder 077 RC2.

If you wish to merge this with an existing Vista project, you can, but delete 00-api-main.script from the Base folder.

I've added a box in which to enter the ISO file name in Main Configuration. By default it's VistaPE-Core.iso, which means it will over-write an iso generated by the VistaPE-Core project. But it's easy for you to change if you want.

The intention is to have the VistaPE-CAPI project supplant the VistaPE-Core, but I will keep both going for a while.

"Basic configuration and tools" saw a System32 subdirectory under the Base subdirectory, so it didn't extract System32.7z. Apparently that existing subdirectory does not contain vpeldr.exe. I am not sure how that situation could arise.

Try deleting that System32 subdirectory.

What about the drivers in this package?
Is it the same drivers from vistape.net/project
or new updated drivers?
