I am relatively new here so...I don't fully know my way around your website...yet. But, I must say that I am finding it very difficult to figure out where things are here. The website organization is quite difficult to understand. In particular, I have been following the NativeEX dvelopment and have made several disks using it - some were even successful...LOL...

However, in following Peter's development in this thread, I can find no clue as to where one can find the latest updates that are being discussed. Undoubtedly, I am missing something that is probably in plain sight....but, I cannot understand how the downloads are orgainzed nor can I figure out the relationship between what is going on in the forum and with the WinBuilder.net website downloads. One gets a sense of considerable disconnect between the two.

I am a newbie and do not want to be critical of what is obviously a tremendous effort here...but, I believe it should be useful to everyone to hear the initial observations of the website from someone who's comments are not yet skewed by already knowing one's way around the website. The first impression comments should be invaluable in seeing what is intuitive and what is confusing to those who are not already "in the know".

I apologize in advance for being rather frank. I really believe the efforts here are quite valuable (even invaluable) but, finding one's way around is really really confusing.

Nonetheless, back to my question....how does one find the download for the ongoing NativeEX builds...???

Thanks!

Hi galileo,

first a welcome in our community!

For insiders that is no issue, but it looks like to be a big problem for newcomers.

Here the way (explained with nativeEx_barebone, for other projects like LiveXP it is similar or identic).

Projects you download using WinBuilder's download center.
You can start with WinBuilder.exe in a new, empty directory.
Start WinBuilder, and it will automatically (because currently you do not have any project) switch into the download center.
Select 'nativeEx.boot-land.net' and wait until the tree at the left is completed.
And here in the download center, you allways find the latest updates of nativeEx.
If something has changed, it is selected in later visits.
In the first start you see all the scripts of a recommended nativeEx_barebone project.

Click 'Download' and wait until the download is finished. Then the 'standard' project view will appear.

Click the blue 'Play' triangle in the upper right.

Because you did not define a source CD yet, the 'Source Wizzard' will appear. Define the path to your source CD and continue.
The project should be build and run into the qEmu emulator.

@Peter:

Thanks for the reply. I did not mean to imply that I did not understand how to build a boot disk...I have done that successfully. But, I did not understand that each of the new changes/updates (recent) to NativeEX discussed here were being updated as you have described....jetzt verstehe ich.

But with respect to the website, there are many older threads (some stickied) that refer to other websites, other editions, various developments, etc. These older stickies are actually out of date and...frankly, misleading with respect to what is actually going on today....es gibt mir Kopfschmerzen...

Many of the threads (discussions) are interlinked or rather crosslinked in several topic headings which makes knowing where to go or where one is...sehr schwierig und mehr Kopfschmerzen (fur mich.. )

But again, Thanks!

Thanks dera!

I have to fix.

I uploaded a lot of changed files.

In all scripts in the project unnecessary quotes are removed.
Hopefully I did not oversee some.

If somebody detects some, please post here.

Which project are you talking about, the experimental version or the frozen one?

'Frozen' means that I will never change it
(never say never ;) )

Again nearly all scripts are new.

In the scripts I removed the line
Run,%ScriptLog%,Process-log
ScriptLog.Script is removed from the project.

Logging is now done by the new OnProcessEntry / OnProcessExit mechanism.

To run the project, WinBuilder 077 RC3 and higher is necessary.

Hi psc,

I haven't tried NativeEx since a long time.

Now i am a little confused about WB 077 RC3 and
nativeEx_barebone, nativeEx_Core
and
nativeEx_barebone_077_RC2, nativeEx_Core_077_RC2,
on nativeex.boot-land.net.

So finally i had success using WB 077 RC2 + nativeEx_barebone_077_RC2 + nativeEx_Core_077_RC2
and what i want to notice that concerns this constellation
(sorry if i missed the things and this combination is not the current stable version of NativeEx):

In the past there was a function 'REOPEN project' what i liked, but was replaced with a newer mechanism,
and now seems this function not working perfectly.

When at first time I made a complete build using the big blue arrow, including creating the iso (this first build is ok),
then at second time i try to run an individual app. (which previously was not added) script using the small green arrow,
then rerun the CreateISO.script again using the small green arrow
seems this new app. is successfully added to the build,
but its shortcuts are missing from the iso made at second time.

I suppose there is an issue in CreateISO.script Version=31
at the front of the [Process] section
at this part:
Set,%Pre%,%ProjectTemplates%\%PreISOName%
If,ExistFile,%Pre%,FileDelete,%Pre%
If,ExistFile,"%PreISOScript%",FileCopy,%PreISOScript%,%ProjectTemplates%
If,ExistFile,%Pre%,Run,%Pre%,Process
If,ExistFile,"%PreISOScript%",FileDelete,"%PreISOScript%"

i mean at the first build
%PreISOScript%
\Workbench\nativeEx_barebone\UserData\Data\ISO-PreProcess.Script.txt
is deleted,
and at the second run
\Workbench\nativeEx_barebone\UserData\ISO-PreProcess.Script.txt
is deleted first, but now already there is no %PreISOScript%
so finally %Pre% is deleted before executed

hallo Dera, Thanks for your questions / critics.

I try to answer step by step.

Now i am a little confused about WB 077 RC3 and
nativeEx_barebone, nativeEx_Core
and
nativeEx_barebone_077_RC2, nativeEx_Core_077_RC2,
on nativeex.boot-land.net.

As known, nativeEx_barebome is not really a project to produce a 'Rescue' or 'productive' PE.
The script.project already shows 'experimental'

All new features of the current WinBuilder development are immediatelly used anywhere in nativeEx_barebone.
To test it, the actual stage of the Winbuilder development is needed, currently RC3, which changes sometimes multiple time a day.

(There is a 'Hacker' way to get it)

For the majority of 'non hacker' users, when they want to test nativeEx_barebone, and maybe use it as base for an individual project: On the nativeEx server there is also a project using the latest official published version of WinBuilder, today RC2. (anywhere I wrote this in this forum, but excuse me, that I do not search for that to give the link)

The REOPEN functionality now is replaced by the Tools > Finalize batch script. I think that is what you mean with 'new mechanism'

Unfortunatelly in the RC2 dependent naiveEx version there is a small bug, which is fixed in the RC3 dependent version:
If you add an app, new shortcuts are not added to the PE.

I suppose there is an issue in CreateISO.script Version=31
at the front of the [Process] section
at this part:
Set,%Pre%,%ProjectTemplates%\%PreISOName%
If,ExistFile,%Pre%,FileDelete,%Pre%
If,ExistFile,"%PreISOScript%",FileCopy,%PreISOScript%,%ProjectTemplates%
If,ExistFile,%Pre%,Run,%Pre%,Process
If,ExistFile,"%PreISOScript%",FileDelete,"%PreISOScript%"

i mean at the first build
%PreISOScript%
\Workbench\nativeEx_barebone\UserData\Data\ISO-PreProcess.Script.txt
is deleted,
and at the second run
\Workbench\nativeEx_barebone\UserData\ISO-PreProcess.Script.txt
is deleted first, but now already there is no %PreISOScript%
so finally %Pre% is deleted before executed

I'm not sure to have understood you correctly.

But I'll test. Maybe you post your configuration, where this happens.

Peter
