Can't build ISO?

Best Answer QuentinX5 , 13 June 2014 - 07:43 PM

Took your advice and looked into the thread. I'm fairly new-ish to using GRUB/GRUB4DOS, so I'm still acquainting myself with how to properly build ISOs. Anyways, I modified my boot to look like such, and still getting BSOD 7B errors. I'm going to try another computer before I go any farther and see if it's just this specific one or an issue with how I'm compiling it in WinBuilder.

title Windows LiveXP Boot CD [1.0]
find --set-root --ignore-floppies /ISO/LiveXP.iso
map --mem /ISO/LiveXP.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)

Though, after reading this thread: http://reboot.pro/to...about-grub4dos/
And with how he built it, I think my issue might lie in the CreateISO file for grub, with as the poster said, quote "That is, BootSDI script is used and hence files from Windows 2k3.".

So I'll go dig up those files again and if I can't get it to boot from another computer and with the new ISO, I'll rebuild it with those files and try again. XD

Ohhh, the fun of debugging... :3

EDIT: Well, after I recompiled the ISO in WinBuilder, I dragged and dropped it and VOILA! Didn't have to add the stuff from BootSDI and Windows 2k3. Definitely learned a lot and got my stuff up and running. Now my next step is fixing my HD Tune Pro script so that it loads the Username and Product Key from the script itself. :)
Thanks for all the help guys. Been a great learning experience for me. :)

So I have been trying to create an image with LiveXP, but I keep running into a couple of errors with it:

Retrieve - Failed to retrieve the file size from: [%baseDir%\ISO\LiveXP.iso] - File does not exist:
StrFormat - Failed to convert [Bytes] because [%sizeISO%] value is not valid:

Which I am slightly confused on because the CreateISO command should be making the ISO already, right?
I was unsure on how to attach something, but I have the log.htm. I'll try adding it as code in HTML format. Hope this helps, and thank you in advance for any help. :)

Realized that the log I posted was only for the CreateISO script. Here is a complete log with all of my scripts in place:

Press any key to continue."

EDIT: I should also add that before I had this issue, with the ISO not compiling, I built one before and made the ISO with it, and when I tried to boot it, it gave me BSOD with 7B on top of it. In the process of attempting to fix that, and making an ISO, I ended up running into that exact same error with the "viaide.sys" file. Then from there it turned into that ISO not compiling.

Same error, with the "viadie.sys" file.

EDIT: Meant to ask this before, but is there a place I could get recommended source files for XP SP2 or SP3 (Or any versions of Windows actually) to use with Winbuilder? I just used some XP installer ISOs I had on my computer and thought it might be helpful to use what everyone else is using.

The complete log tells me, that you are trying to build an "old" LiveXP project using WinBuilder 083, which is proprietary to the multiPE project.

The package contains WinBuilder 083, a slightly modified clone of the official WinBuilder 082.
Do never use WinBuilder 083 for other projects. It cannot be guaranteed that it works and does not cause any harm.

Try to use LiveXP 2012, which (propably) works with WinBuilder 83, or use WinBuilder 082.

Some "revolutiontionary suggestion": Try the multiPe project.

BTW: It is not wise, in the first trial to include "everything". Make a choiche of the scripts you need. later you can add scrips to the build.

Alright, I grabbed some XP SP2 and SP3 Retail ISOs that I had on another computer and extracted the contents into a directory. I rebuilt the ISO with the WinBuilder you gave me and it compiled fine. I plugged it in and it started to boot but then gave me a BSOD with 7B. My best guess was it was just the SATA drivers, but I can work around the drivers most likely by picking and choosing scripts in the drivers directory. Thanks for the information and the help. Really appreciate it. :)

Well, the irony of the situation is I was using WinBuilder 82, but then I switched over to the LiveXP 2012 that you built, and downloaded the WinBuilder and project with it. Getting past the situation with the source hopefully will fix the ISO compile issue (hopefully). I'm going to go ahead and redownload LiveXP 2012 into a new directory and see if that gets me any farther having the new sources.

Please tell me and all the other forum's members how you decided from the log, that the source CD is invalid?

Please respect QuentinX5's latest reply.

If you can explain, I am happy to have some voodoo included in WinBuilder.exe, which detects problems in the source CD

My best guess it is something to do with either the computer I'm testing it on or the one I'm building the ISO on. I'm building it on a Windows 8 machine if it makes any difference. I couldn't get it to compile with UAC turned on so I turned it off. Don't know if that makes any difference or not.

EDIT: Also had an afterthought after I posted that. Maybe the way I'm booting it in GRUB is wrong?
Here's how I have it loading it:

It's really odd that it's working fine on my and 100'th of other users computers but not on yours.

You are sure you are not doing "something" wrong while building?

title Windows LiveXP Boot CD [1.0]
find --set-root /ISO/LiveXP.iso
map /ISO/LiveXP.iso (0xff)
map --hook
chainloader (0xff)

2ND EDIT: After testing the ISO and booting it through Rufus instead of GRUB, it boots into Windows XP without an issue. So it has to be something with how GRUB is loading the ISO on my flash drive. I'll do some more digging around and try to find something. Thanks for the assistance from both of you. :)

Well, you are not using GRUB (but rather grub4dos) and of course it is not an issue with the loader but with the need for some particular provisions needed to boot that way, possibly you fell in this trap :w00t: :
