I just this morning found the solution to a problem that has been vexing me : NTFS volume recognition under the Windows 98 shell. The solution involves altering the registry entries for esdi_506.pdr in conjunction with Paragon's pntfs.vxd .

Now I can kick back and pump out an installer for a Mindows which uses the Windows98 shell. It'll be larger than the basic Mindows(95), but still small, and of course, free of IE.

Once this installer is uploaded, I'll get real about providing a means of producing a liveCD.

@jaclaz

Wow, so now I have more projects to experiment with : bootable Win95 and Win98, maybe bootable from
my multiboot key ! :-).

Well it was a real fun building those environments, but once done it is not really useful (as expected).
No applications, NTFS support missing etc... They cannot be compared with BartPE and WinPE.

Well, it is not intended to be compared to a PE.

However it is, say, 500% faster in booting.

NTFS support (in a DOS window) can be added through NTFS4DOS, besides using the Paragon .vxd.

Applications can be added at will.

In less than, say, 50 Mbytes you can have a complete working system (by cutting a few corners of course and not using latest releases of everything).

What do you expect from it, blood?

Another little known thing is that the Win98(SE) shell supports %variables% in shortcuts, while Win95 doesnt - very useful for a liveCD.

Still waiting, a year later

Mannu Yes.
This is quit old.
I don´t like the Winimize with 95 shell.
So I hope the script was somewhere for download.

Try this: MSDOS 7.1

I did a full dos install and added the "Mini-Windows 98 GUI Add-On" in VirtualBox.
Boots from usb (live) just fine.
I also use a 50mg drive image loaded via grub4dos into ram for cd's.

Haven't tried to get ntfs support.
