im asking for your help becouse im going nuts with this project im trying to do...
i have a 5gb usb hdd, and i want to make it bootable so i can boot seperatly to 3 different partitions,
partition 1 - fat32 - msdos
partition 2 - fat32 - msdos
partition 3 - ntfs - xp (using the method of installing winxp to usb hdd)
i´ve managed to make it bootable but just in the first partition (where i have some dos tools), but how can
i make a different boot sector to different partitions?
i would also like to make a boot menu where i choose from any of that partitions!!
thanks in advance

Try this:
http://www.ezbsystems.com/easyboot/
EasyBoot is an integrated tool to create MultiBoot,
Menu driven CDs & DVDs with native language.
It has the ability to automatically produce boot image files,
and generate the ISO file as well.

and one explained by spacesurfer here:
http://www.911cd.net...o...c=18045&hl=
The problem for XP installed on a USB stick can be if the device is seen as "Fixed" or "Removable".
If the device is seen as removable you MUST use either the "Hitachi Microfilter Driver" or the recently found "dummydisk.sys":

Otherwise will be able to mount ONLY first partition.
If you need any help with Grub4dos syntax, just post questions here.

There are a fair number of tools, both Commercial and Open Source that fall into the category of "bootmanagers" that ONLY work on FD or HD like devices.
Of these, among the Freeware ones I can mention partita:
http://www.pedrofrei...om/crea1_en.htm
and mrbldr:
http://www.boot-land...mbldr-t334.html
the distinctive advantage of these two is that they both fit completely in the MBR (512 bytes), so they are theoretically compatible with ALL partition managing software, unlike some other ones that occupy some of the "hidden" sectors of first track.
On the contrary Grub4DOS, GPL, is a tool specific to HD's and similar devices that can ALSO be used on bootable CD's.
The good thing about Grub4dos is the fact that it can be run fro either DOS (grub.exe) or from BOOT.INI (grldr) through NTLDR, so that you won't need to even touch the MBR.
The syntax is more "logical" than most other bootmanagers and the same menu.lst can be used on floppy, CD or HD type of devices, and it is of course fully compatible with any kind of Linux.

tks jaclaz for all your help!!
ive managed to sucessfully make the boot menu to start from each partition, but now every time i start the first partition or the second one (msdos tools) automatically the second and third partition hides itself!!
this is strange becouse i dont have anything in this msdos tools to hide such partitions.
ps. ive created the boot menu with special fdisk

The question here is two (actually three) folded:
1) WHY do you need to have more than one partition?
2) WHY, IF more than one partition is needed, from second on they cannot be Logical Volumes inside Extended Partition?
2a) WHY, IF more than one partition is needed, AND from second on they cannot be Logical Volumes inside Extended Partition, do they need to "see" each other?
Please, do not take it as an offence , but maybe you need a little bit of study on MBR's, Partitioning and limits of each OS (mainly DOS), some good links are:

And, though not so good, my page here:

explains a bit about USB stick booting

i need to see all partitions when i plug the usb hdd to winxp...
Then you should make second and third partitions Logical Volumes inside Extended Partition.
