The good guy that attempted to do something (for free) about CD/DVD emulation has announced that the whole project is going to die :(:

http://renosite.com/...php?f=7&t=12746

Those not aware about the nice thingy/ideas may want to read something about it here:

@creno,

if you happen to pass by, consider this post as a friendly hug hug.gifand a farewell bye2.gif, hope to "see you " again on some new interesting project. :)

humm, why not on Open Source, to github or sorceforge ?

why mus all be dependent on one person ?

"it's my Project , and i let it die !" so, why ?

why do you not get to all and maybe have anyone fun for developing further ..

.. only so an suggestion ..

See it logically, not emotional:

When you get "something" without paying for it, without registering as user, without ...,

then you use it "as is".

Unfortunatelly most of all "free using" users (wrongly) think that they have rights due to the "something" they use.

See e.g. the excitement when PartedMagic became payable ...

When an author of free software decides to stop his development, or to ask money for his product, there is no reason for any user to complain.

Just by using the software, a user does not get any rights.

All users use the current software w/o any contract with the author.

Maybe the user can ask or beg ...

If you had taken the time to read/check :whistling:, you might have found how it is ALREADY on Sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.n...usbcdemulation/

Point is that the particular thingy was partly software and partly hardware, more exactly there are two projects, one using some dedicated hardware and one using a "generic" teensy++  board.

oh, okey..

and he can let store the software on SF.. in the next jears.. for an place who can any see this software and can maybe make more about it or get suggestions from it.. for extra parts, what maybe in 2-4 jears possible.. i have seen many software comes and goes.. I have seen some software as they have developed themselves .. like  ACDSee,  Adobe, Gimp, AutoCAD or TotalCommander was named before Windows Commander ..

(i have given help there in germany, for distribute the Windows Commander with for Chris, for more known..

(on the Mailboxtime over telnet))

so, he should get not die his software, he should let easy store his software on SF.. maybe anyone else have fun for developing further ..

At dead software you do not remember, but you can find stored software again, which can then be revived ..

over seachmashins or others.. and can use this as software approach/attempt/first sign..

Sounded interesting...similar to many other projects in an attempt to allow easy emulation of a CD to allow booting.

But with things like cheaper usb drives, even software like easy2boot to manage the SW in a more multiboot, and even DriveDroid  (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196707) where you can put the files inside an android phone (which maybe could be using a sim card for expanded storage), the "itch" (that needs to be scratched by an individual) is less than when this project/ide started.

At least parts of it live on...

Good to hear, Curtis!

I just had awful thoughts you've gone into another world or so :-(while doing my search about your project half of the day:)

I like your hardware project.

BTW, do you have plans to migrate to Github or some other revision control websystem with easier navigation UI:)?

PS: I still keep my old dream about implementing it in software (as ultra-thin hypervisor).  Here is summary of my investigation posted on G+:
https://goo.gl/m38Ar8

In ideal case it would run on older, pre Hardware-assisted virtualization (pre-HAV, also called pre-HVM) machines.  I even took a chance to talk about this with Jeremy Fitzhardinge of Xen fame:
https://goo.gl/V63Acp

He was a bit skeptic about the implementation on pre-HVM machines.  But that could be left for later phases of project (if any).

I would be more than glad to start emulating disk controller + ODD even on machines with HVM support.

Are there any low-level x86 hackers around:)?  Does the idea sound feasible to any of you?
