If you post your progress and notes. Im sure the other programmers here will hep you out to get it to work or to implement the scripts to WinBuilders Language. They say its easy to get the hang of it. So best of luck in this. Keep us updated.

I think that millenium is the worst os ever. I don't think that it's worth to try. However i'll see if it can be achieved

Well, there was Microsoft BOB...:

...OK I cheated, it was a shell, not an OS.... :P

However Millennium Edition is not as bad as people depicts it, I am with MDGX :P in saying that some of the files that came with it are much better than Win98SE ones (some are commonly developed with Win2K ones, notoriously rock-solid), ME was simply "unfortunate" being squeezed between a large base of installed (and more or less working) Win98Se PC's and the change of policy in Microsoft marketing that led to giving a NT core to Windows XP home (in my opinion bastardizing Win2K).
Just as an example the DEFRAG and SCANDISK that come with ME is WAY better than original 98 one.
MDGX already explored almost everything that is better in ME than in 98:
http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#WDIW

The goal here is building the ultimate Windows 9x OS by "transplanting" ~ 700 newer ME system files onto 98 SE, and YES, you too CAN do this at home, kids... :-)

http://en.wikipedia....crosoft_Windows

The home consumer edition of Windows 2000, codenamed "Windows Neptune", ceased development and Microsoft released Windows Me in its place. Eventually "Neptune" was merged into their new project, Whistler, which later became Windows XP.

Most probably the failure of ME (absolute) and that of Win2k (only as home OS) was due to the PC game market which was not fast enough to provide working solutions for the new systems.

But nonetheless, overall ME does cause problems.....

I have run across a bootable millennium diskette on the internet. I think it could be used for a cdrom, too.

I can't find the site, though. :P

This guys work on a RAM drive 98 may be a good starting point. Everything is detailed pretty well.

http://www.geocities...rmdrv/ram98.htm

I do use Win ME DOS boot disks because it seems to handle large hard drives (80gig on up) better than most DOS versions. ME itself doesn't seem to have any advantages besides better support for USB storage media IMHO.

They added so many extra "features" it should prove to be a greater challenge than 98 or 95 from CD/RAM. Good luck! And I don't mean that in a sarcastic way.. :P

@Moon Goon
@all

The "unofficial" repository of anything 9x/Me minimization/boot from CD is this thread here:
http://www.911cd.net...showtopic=12326
and (marginally) here:
http://www.911cd.net...showtopic=16860

where the site you mentioned and many more are linked to.

As I see it, the method that has more "potentiality", besides the "winimization" one is the one here:
http://www.geocities...eedatarecovery/

(using Nero Harddisk Emulation)

About drive sizes, recently a member of MSFN, LLXX has SUCCESFULLY modified some 98 drivers to BREAK the 137 Mb barrier! :P , find it here:
http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=78592

(please note that it is still experimental, do read the entire thread BEFORE using it, do not - for the moment - use it in a production system) - Do they exist production systems based on 98? :P

Following the trail of useful links left by Jaclaz I found 98SE2ME:

http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/

Maybe one could follow the steps to create a 98 CD and include 98SE2ME in the process..

Well, i'm the one who uses the laptop. And it's pretty darn stable. Really. 0_o. I use it for on-the-road development (<3 danish trains w/ power outlets) and such.

My better half uses a 2.4GHz celeron w/512 megs of ram and an ATI9250 (it's for schoolwork/WoW :P ) that i got her last year. And that works a tad better. (although i really am an AMD/nVidia man. But with the recent AMD/ATI merger, we'll see what happens to that..)

Hi folks :D

Here is how you create a bootable version of Windows ME

What you will need:

1) Windows ME CD disk:
2) CDBurnerXP
3) Bootme.exe  (OEM): (See attachment below for already zipped winmeoem.IMA file to aid you in your endeavors)
4) Winrar (In case you get bootme.exe file from another source & need to extract it)
5) Blank CD

Firstly open Boot.exe (OEM) from wherever you downloaded it from, with Winrar & extract it
(Should be called - winmeoem.IMA)
Okay next, open CDBurnerXP & proceed as follows:

Open "Disc - Disc data compilation - CDBurnerXP"
Referring to the top Menu bar of CDBurnerXP  - Click on
Disc > Boot options when window or screen opens, check or tick make disc bootable
Select path to boot image: enter relevant path details to your downloaded winmeoem.ima [...]
Load Segment: 7C0              (or Leave Default)
Sectors: 1                                                (Default)
Emulation type: floppy 1.44mb 95/98/ME boot images
Platform: x86-32

Click [OK] Button

Now open folder where you have downloaded or stored Windows ME & Extract it.
In this case we are not looking for the ISO file we are looking for the Windows file-set.

& when you extracted it, just load it within CDBurnerXP e.g. you load the relevant Windows ME files in the top window pane of (should be split into two distinct portions) CDBurnerXP. Load them into the bottom window pane of CDBurnerXP a slidy progress bar should display itself & populate the bottom window pane with the files from the top window pane.

Next go to the top menu bar again click on disc tab & scroll down to option "Burn disc...." option (OR alternatively type [CTRL+B] and select it. It should now proceed to be written to an appropriate Blank CD you have provided.

A long time after the original request I know but posted these details just in case someone visits this link hoping to find an answer to make a boot-able Windows ME CD hope this helps those who are seeking this information.

Best Regards,

I
