hi,
i need to know where can i set the aministrator password in winxp without the use of winnt.sif (some other file maybe) becouse i have a compaq notebook and every time i restore the system to factory setings it creats a admin password. and it ins´t on the winnt.sif file
pls help me (this is urgent)

I'm no expert, and I may be wrong, but..
In the [GuiUnattended] section there should be AdminPassword=whatever

yes i know that....
but i already put adminpassword=* and i still get a password prompt in winxp startup
so... i guess the password is defined in another place but i dont know where

Well, if the normal solution doesn't work then you'll have to bypass it. Boot into a Win PE disc with Password Renew added to it and clear out the admin password.

I've seen Linux based floppy disk tools for blanking out the admin password but they are more unreliable and can break the Windows install.
You could also remaster your XP disc by using nLite and adding your own admin password (or no password at all)

Once you've blanked out the admin password I'd create a backup image of the hard drive so you can avoid doing it all over again next time.

Putting password = '*' is the same as requesting one at login time.
I normally put a standard password in here, and then autologin some times as well. Doesn't work as listed in NT 4.0

but has the restore cd a pre configured sam database .. which is also restored?
