Hope you like this release! I Luv nLite!

nLite v1.4.8 made Portable.

No need to install it! I have virus tested it with AntiVir came out clean but I always advise that you check any download with your own antivirus to make doubly sure!!!

This version is made to work also on machines that don't have .NET Framework installed. I know how much some people dislike Dotnet framework

The package contains a first Portable version built up using RunHiddenConsole.exe to start the Batch file that changes some values in Registry, runs the program and deletes the Registry values when exiting from the program. This is done just to avoid having the sloppy DOS window in the background.

You will find the download in 2no parts, simply download both files unpack both files to the same suitable location & within part one you will find an additional exe file, click on it, follow the prompts & voila your file will be reconstructed. Use &....

I'm not a fan of dot net either.

Now that win32 programs are running well under wine/linux it becomes nearly impossible to run programs compiled with .NET

Or is there a pratical solution for this matter?

Don't really see the advantage of programming in dot net, maybe paraglider can elucidate me on the advantages but I sincerely see little difference from what we could already do.

My delphi 7 exe's run from windows 95 all the way up to windows 2008 and that's how programs should work.

I have written graphical programs with c++ with WTL template library, c++ with MFC, c# /vb.net with windows forms, c# / vb.net with WPF ( comes with .NET 3.0 and later ). The easiest and best performing by far is WPF. MS produce a very good design tool called Blend for designing WPF applications. WPF is layered on top of directx so performs well. If you have access to a graphics designer, as we do at work, then its amazing what can be achieved with a WPF application. Programmers and graphics designers can use the same tool, Blend.

.NET 3.0 comes with a new communications technology, WCF, which makes writing distributed applications much easier than it used to be.

Computer Languages evolve. I have programmed in many languages - assembly, basic, cobol, fortran, pascal, algol68, c, c++, vb.net, c#. I started programming in 1976 on a mainframe computer where the program was punched on paper cards and / or paper tape. Its amazing how much programming has changed in those 32 years.

In my experience with distributed business applications, that run on several PCs and communicate with each other, I have seen no evidence that you loose anything in performance when switching from VB6 com applications to .NET versions of the same applications. In fact just the opposite. Of course these are large scale applications with greater than a million lines of code developed over 15 years by at least 200 different people.

You can of course achieve the same with highly optimized c code that more than likely is impossible to support and is only understood by the person who wrote it. We also have plenty of that as well.

Of course if you are writing an application that needs to run from PE on read only media then .NET is certainly best avoided.
