Has anyone integrated the "Registry Restore Wizard" tool into the build for Win7PE?

I had it working for XP and Vista boot disks, but it does not find any restore points when running the Restore Wizard in the Win7PE boot Disk.

I noticed the Restore point files have a "Regresbak" file extention for the restore point files in XP and Vista but the file extention for the restore point files in Windows 7 have a "Log" extention.

The restore files are normally located in the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder in all three versions of Windows.

Any help would be much appreciated, this is an excellent tool for recovering Windows when the registry files have been corrupted.

Also another thing I noticed about Windows 7 is that the "System Restore" feature is turned off by default. I had to activate it and allocate the amount of storage to use for restore points.

If you know of any other tool to use for restoring the registry for Windows 7 that would help too.

Thanks!

AFAIK Registry backups in xp should be in C:\System Volume Information\_restore##\RP##\snapshot

For vista/7 that folder does not exist and .log are not registry backups.

Thanks for the reply Tiger,
I stand corrected, looks like the "regresbak" files are actually created by the Registry Restore Wizard before the registry is replaced in case you want to roll the changes back.

I looked at the source files for the RRW and it does indeed look at the System Volume Information folder to retrieve any available restore points.

The "Snapshot" folder does not exist but it looks like the restore points generated are stored in the root of the System Volume Information folder and are labeled as a "System File" with two bracketed fields of characters as the name of the file.

OK, so that's been clearified.

So... has anyone figured out a way to access and restore these points, either by adapting the RRW script or with another program?

Thanks Tiger, that looks like it would be a good addition for my boot disk but I was looking for something that would restore the registry, not just the files. I did however find an alternative for Windows 7. Have you ever heard of the "Windows 7 System Recovery Disk"?
Apparently, this is included on a Windows 7 DVD but since most people did not get a Windows 7 Disk when they bought their computer, Microsoft has a stand-alone disk that just has this utility on it. There's a 32 bit and 64 bit version.
The utility has a registry restore tool, system file checker and restore, memory diagnostics, boot diagnostics and repair and coommand prompt.

If you have a bit torrent downloader, the torrents can be downloaded here:

32 Bit
http://neosmart.net/..... Disc.torrent

64 Bit

There may be a way of integrating this into a Win7PE boot disk.

In fact, some of the projects that use WinBuilder (like Win7PE_SE  ) have some configuration options to add the extra recovery tools to the build - not exactly the same as the recovery disk, but should do the trick...

Where? I have been working with a Win7PE_SE build and didn't see them available anywhere.. Which section and script?

Why not use Sardu?
You can add both Win7PE and the Recovery Iso and plenty of other tools:

See picture... In general, it always important to scan ALL scripts one by one to go down the list of optional checkboxes, and to play a bit with what they do. (one area that could use better documentation)

But also back to topic more - has anyone looked into how this might be hooked in with the runnscanner tool from Paraglider? Seems like the two together could also be useful?

Runnscanner (v1.0.0.25)
Program developed by Paraglider to load a remote registry and run a program and then unload the remote registry. Originally developed for non-PE-aware antispyware applications. Includes a shortcut for editing the target registry in regedit, and a shell extension for running any program.
