HI everybody this is my post here, I came here by reading about installing using PXE.

Situation: HAve a laptop with XP installed, no working cd, not usb boot, I have PXE. I have a 30gb disc, and using only 15gb on the Win partition.

PXE seems a fair try, but heres an idea... by reading this tutorial I came up with an idea http://webpirates.co...e-installation/

Is there a way to copy a i386 folder into a new partitio, boot from that partition, and get the installation started from the HDD instead of doing PXE?

Thank everbody.

Well, that's EXACTLY what the tutorial is about.
If you follow it you DO NOT PXE boot the XP Setup (RIS install) BUT you PXE boot a DOS (Bart's Network Bootdisk is DOS based) and from it you install the XP through WINNT.EXE (if you follow the tutorial exactly after having FORMATted the local disk).

Using the WINNT from the PXE server instead of copying locally the I386 is only a way to shorten a bit the copying times.

Nothing much different (exception made from the DOS PXE booting) from this (which does use a "local" I386 source):

What the tutorial you linked to either omits or leaves as implied is that since you are initiating from a DOS, you ONLY have DOS supported filesystems available (FAT 12/16 for DOS 6.22 and FAT12/16/32 for later versions).

If you are OK with later running Convert (if you want the install to be on NTFS) it is a working method allright.

Personally I would first try with Winner:
http://ping.windowsd...com/winner.html
though there are mixed reports of it working, I used it a few times and had no issues, but YMMV.
