Since Nuno has asked me to work on some possible changes to the set-up (see this thread) I'll take the liberty of replying to your suggestion.

Possible modifications to the forums "skin" templates are virtually unlimited. So there is certainly no technical obstacle to accomplishing what you want. The only difficulties arise in satisfying the wide variety of wishes and opinions that various users may express about exactly what features, options, etc. should be located where in relation to others. My intention would be to invite feedback comments on a wide range of possible layout options when we get to that stage. For now, however, I'm just getting started with a "virgin" out-of-the-box installation and my first priorities will be those features requested by Nuno himself.

I guess the bottom line is: Be patient and we'll get around to these and other layout details as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime, you and others can watch my fumbling first steps on the experimental work platform at http://virtech.org/bootland/

for now i only write request to be accomplished if approved in future (not expected near future)
just notice some new things to add your feedback list:

Nuno
as you wrote there

Temporary issue from the hosting provider.

It isn't related to lack of resources like before, don't know the reason but if it occurs again I'll email to see if they they diagnostic what is wrong.

accesing ftp sometimes not possible i confirm, i made a rapidupload once till ftp is accesable, but my mail notification is more urgent for me,

This is my mail settings
Posted Image

BUT since about Sep 21 2008, i got emails altogether at about ~01:00 (gmt +2) which some are missing and posted the other day because of gmt issue.
(i got 19 emails about 40 min ago)
and the newest post is http://www.boot-land...?...ost&p=45427 , post37 of amalux

to contineu checking the subjects i post, i made a list of subjects and open them from this link, which is a very boring method as you should agree

i got immadiate response before Sep 21 2008

am i the only one who have this issue?????

No, I have it too. I got no notifications all yesterday, and only just now received about 20 all in one hit. At the same time, ftp access started working again (thankfully, so that I could upload the FixShellWinlogon.Script fix).

Regards,
Galapo.

IP Boards can be configured to use either PHPMail() or SMTP for outgoing email transmission. If this board is configured to use the latter (probably, but I don't know) and if it works properly sometimes, then the problem almost certainly resides with the SMTP server rather than with anything internal to the board itself. And in that case, the only "fix" available here is screaming at the hosting service's SMTP server admins, keeping in mind that they get badly abused by spam bots too.

Glad it's working for you again, but any credit goes to the system mechanics, not me. Reliability may have been improved, but it still seems quite slow at my end of the pipeline. Worldwide email spam has become such an unbelievable burden on the entire network that its a wonder it works at all. Unfortunately, my own country has not been in the forefront of any source control efforts. The counter-arguments have been mainly about corporate "free speech", or some such excuse for abuse.

great work you are doing arvy, thanks a lot

here is sth i noticed
http://img375.images...239/faewra4.png

from picture a regular user would say 1st topic is created by Nuno Brito, Saturday, 27 September 2008

but
1st topic is from hive who have avatar but no info
2nd topic is from Nuno whom avatar and topic subject not seen, but only info and some info seen

in another way, listing in the picture the 1st 2nd 3rd topics are:
http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=5826
http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=5825
http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=5818

but 1st and 2nd are mixed in eachother.

It is no big deal, but maybe a sign of sth, you know better arvy, i hope this helps.

I'm afraid I have no idea about any of that. The only thing I've done so far is to modify the page headers and footers so that they display a site navigation menu. Nothing has been changed in the body of any page and nothing to alter the IP Board itself or any of its functions in any way. There are no "widgets" installed yet. It wouldn't let me do that.

When did you first notice the issue that concerns you? Is it new?

Your English is fine as far as I'm concerned. I understand what you mean okay. I just have no idea what might have caused those two links in the same front page item to point to different topics with the second one having no relation to the first.

I'm inclined to suspect that human error has crept into it somehow. All of the other front page links, including the "# replies" links in the upper right corner of each item, seem to be consistent with each item's topic. But I'm only guessing. I haven't touched the front page at all -- not even to add the menu bar. Nuno's the expert on that mkportal set-up, not I.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

my only regular intention is to report things i notice as soon as possible to avoid further things.
since new posts to topic seems to be working nice and no problem in old posts, everthing is okey.

This is a mkportal bug, it wasn't ready for the next version of IPB that we are now using and the developers only provided a quick fix.

Don't worry, mkportal will soon be removed completely with a better portal page.

Thank you for the feedback.

i read "Forum under construction" post,
these are feedback reports for awerness, not complain reports, as i admire your work verymuch i dont want to get misunderstanded as a member who tries to find a bug (it is not my intention), i write what i see as i get very mostly good responses.
-
report of post 13 repeat itsself in another 2 topic
after The Hive's topic "OneLoupe 1.03", there is another hidden topic
-
ftp dont work for a while
-
Nuno wrote "- The "Thanks" button was reimplemented" but i couldnt find it, probably i will see it in following days
-
mail notification stopped

Thanks  a lot for goooood work, i know main constructions will end with a super success because i know you are the super  masters.

Please don't feel that you need to explain or apologise for providing feedback. It's both welcome and helpful. Personally, I'd like more of it, not less.

During the "work in progress", some "glitches" may need to remain visible long enough to find the cause. But don't worry. With your help and others, we'll get as close to perfection as possible in the long run. It just takes a little time, that's all. In the meantime, you keep right on reporting any issues that you see. That's what this section is all about.

Thanks Nuno,

Feature was not there at time i send the message i guess, probably again i behave as gonzales (fastest mexican mouse of the world)

here is a small thing i noticed when my dynamic ip change,
i open the current page
http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=5714
but to add repy, login required, so i login, but i am not redirected to here, i redirected to
http://www.boot-land.net/forums
so i click some and came back here and wrote this

also a suggestion, we have "Recommend" and "Active Users" on left
would it be better to have them at the top or bottom?
only an idea to gain writable space to read more easly as after some posts left part of page is always empty.
Nothing essential, only an idea

btw, i like the colors and noticed skin sellector :)

The improvements over the last days seemed to disimprove availability for me.

Another small think is, that when i get the new error page, which i get to see often! I wished that at least the url in the addressbar wouldn't change.
It's a real pain in the behind, to always have to go back to the new posts list to open that tab again.

It's still better than defaulting back to the chat room as before..

The error page is quite simple static html - any volunteers to propose a better one?

The Page is fine by me. It gives me all the needed information.
But instead of redirecting my browser, how about presenting it, as if it were the page i asked for, as usual with error pages.
