Hi,

 

Does anybody know what the so many files of the type netcfg-123456.txt created during boot in win8 system32 folder are?

The content of all the files is:

Command line arguments: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
CSteelhead::CSteelhead
CSteelhead::~CSteelhead

An "official" fix has been "UNofficially" annoiunced a LOT of time ago, I thought that the issue was later solved

I had already found that:

 

"It is a known issue since 2012"
"Somebody  will be it in the fix in the future"

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.

 

Why is so few information about it?

Probably because the vast majority of Windows 8 users are "disturbed" (mentally ) and "disturbed" (actually, by the obnoxious interface ), or however too busy cleaning their touch screens from fingerprints than to actually have a look at the filesystem and get angry about the issue.
The nice features of NTFS (and the fact that there is a pre-set VERY LARGE amount of $MFT entries reserved space) makes the issue not particularly "evident" to anyone actually not looking at the filesystem with attention.

Personally, (and being notoriously more "direct" and "primitive" than the average Joe) I would simply add a command *like*:

 

del C:\<whatever path>\netcfg-*.txt >nul

and run it from time to time .

I have a batch file in the desktop, it needs  the force switch and run as Adm

 

del /q /f C:\Windows\System32\netcfg-*.txt
