I'm certainly interested. What are your thoughts?

first of all, sorry for not replying any earlier, but the threads have not been updated for a while, so I have no knowledge of anybody following unless I come back in. which I have just done. u can have my thoughts and facts and/or Virgus' procerures, if u like.

1) my thoughts are that u should copy ur driverstore folder someplace else first, just in case something goes wrong, and then try deleting as much as possible from inside the file repository, after having taken ownership of the folder.

2) my facts are that u should now use a pnputil script by virgus, making sure it points to the copy of the whole driverstore file repository that u have copied someplace else early on - this will restore some or all vital files for the system to restart ok. if the system does not restart, which means that the script has copied some and not all the vital info back to the driverstore file repository, u should copy the remnant subfolders from "someplace else" to the driverstore file repository in question, restart the computer and repeat the pnputil operation, which will complete ok this time. u will have twigged that u need some dual boot or other to do it all; I have plenty vhds to do it from and jostle back and forth between them, that is why it sounds so simple by the way I put it.

3) as for the detailed pnputil script writing procedures, pls ask virgus as I haven't got the slightest idea.
