Hi everyone, this is the topic where new beta releases will be posted based on wb067 - please be aware that this topic is only destined to discuss winbuilder.exe - for stable builds it is recomended to use the latest published editions or use the lateste beta available here after reading the posts and feedback from other members to ensure things work as supposed.

Don't forget to add your opinion about the latest beta on this topic to keep all issues on one place..

Beta 15 (2007-April-3)

- When a user saves ftp settings with an empty path - the program will add at least the root folder as start location ( / )
- IniRead has been modified - If an INI key is not found on a file then it will output an empty variable instead of an error message
- Fixed the function to upload and create web servers - two errors debugged, first was the lack on correct details when logging in, the second was time-out too short (wasn't working on slow dial up modems)
- Bug fixed the extra \ that appeared on section name when uploading individual scripts, causing them to not be displayed as available on the download center

Now whenever a user selects a folder, it is possible to browse other folders and scripts from here. The FTP client is the first step into a fully automated process to upload scripts - didn't added a full upload and download support for the time being.

Please let me know how it works - still need to test it under proxies to see the result.

Now whenever a user selects a folder, it is possible to browse other folders and scripts from here.

:P I didnt get this until I saw it.
So if you click on one of the main Project root folders within Winbuilder you will see a visual look inside showing all scripts or subfolders. Very easy and fast to navigate thru it . :P

WOW! THATS GREAT!

First time launch of this new beta is faster when first starting. Almost forgot that the Final took a while to come up but this one doesnt seem to have that problem.

Some of the scripts need to be update from the LiveXP Project to work properly.
When building and iso and booting up PeNetwork Manger still has the problem of not showing the Network Device card for Qemu.

And as Ove brought up the topic about ShellWM is not working properly as it did before. I think he pointed how to fix this in his Explorer thread.

The Display Properties script needs to be setup to work properly by default. The Screensaver does not work properly.

I have tested new filecopy command. It seems work right. :P
Yet another question: Why I can't write comments in [interface] section. When I try it I've got errors when script GUI loads.
And It's will be very usefull to have something like statusbar with current element coordinates and size in GUI creation window. I need it to make nice interfaces with buttons and labels in straight line.

I have (as usual) some suggestions for the next beta:
-When using the update center, winbuilder seems to freeze although it working. So the stop button can't work.
-You can also add a label to show the size of downloaded files and how much is remaining.
-Process section in script.project doesn't work
-Right click in a project ->Run script, doesn't work
-When download a project, it must add itshelf in winbuilder.ini or any other variables that it need

About the changes , they are GREAT!!! :P

Thanks for this beta !! :P

Beta 2 is available for testing!

I hope this time the problem experienced by medEvil regarding downloads is finally fixed, tomorrow will also try it on proxies that require username/password to see how it handles these connections - if needed a box for proxy settings will be added.

Sorry for not adding yet the registry enumeration Peter - it's the next thing I'll work on.. :P

Adding new project just got simpler - add the project on the projects folder and it's done - wb will search for every script.project file on the first level of sub-folders.

That's all for now, hope you like it.. :P

Yes, I know what you mean - you'll be downloading scripts around the same speed you'd get when downloading files from a website since it uses the same http method.

The speed of the download will depend on your connection bandwith and on the speed of our boot land web server - wich can get slow if there are too many requests at the same time, there's not much that I can do about speedy downloads for the moment, but will keep this issue in mind..

Auto-detecting projects in the Projects folder is a very cool feature. MUCH more intuitive than editing an .INI file.

One thing: If you place *just* a script.project file in WINBUILDER\PROJECTS it gets recognized as a valid project. What I would expect is that new projects would only be identified if
A. They have their own folder under Projects and
B. They have their own script.project in that folder.

Awesome work as always :P

:P

Thanks for quick fixes !!

Here are some other important parts of my wish list:
-When winbuilder processes [process] section in script.project, variables don’t work
-You can add a utility in tools menu to add or create a project to winbuilder
-When the user downloads updates in the update center and selects a folder in the scripts tree, the progress tab disappears
-Winbuilder should recognise a folder as a project if its name has the postfix “.project” . This will make project scan faster (I think)

Here are also some not important fixes:
-While navigating in the scripts tree, if the user select a folder with up/down buttons the contents of the folder are not displayed in the right panel
-When the user select the tools menu and then exit, winbuilder selects the scripts tab and not the previous selected tab
-Right click in a project ->Run script, doesn't work

Nuno, perhaps you could set it up so the real latest beta appears on the downloads page. (unless this is by design to avaoid distributing unstable releases)

On another topic,

More and more scripts require build model to feed them variables.
This can be a drag if you want to say, add one additional app. in script form to an existing build. This is one thing I liked alot vs. pebuilder's process.
WB has seen a recent loss of flexibility as a trade off to incorporate some new worthwhile features including the reg hive builder.
I think we could use a compatible example script for adding an app. without any variables from the 'build model' script so that the script may be run at any time.
Otherwise, right click & run script could just be disabled. WB could also check for certain strings and disable some scripts that won't run.

harsh.
Let's see if I can spin this into a positive...

While I actually prefer the bart based WB53 for my stable project(s), I can verify that using xpsp2-en, the build completes and boots. It boots a little slower when it should boot faster (as it's smaller) but I think that this has to do with the fact that the hives factory isn't quite polished yet. It took Bart much trial and error to produce his method, The best is yet to come...! :P

I've uploaded a new beta version - 3

This contains quite some changes/addons regarding the HTTP and FTP methods, unfortunatelly I no longer have web acess at my house so I couldn't work on the latest feedback, but will try to solve them quickly - one other thing that I've reminded myself while writing this post is registry enumeration - will also try to focus on this over the next beta..

Here's a quick sum of changes:

- "Create new updates.ini" tab was renamed to "Upload Config", allowing to create updates.ini/index.html files and add needed values for uploading scripts using the file tranfer protocol
- A few more bugfixes on the download method, safer behavior.
- In the middle of the download process it is already possible to close the application, aborting safely the download.
- updates.ini and index.html are completely independent from fixed web paths using using relative web links - meaning that it can be placed/moved to anywhere as long as the project/script found on subfolders are moved as well.
- updates.ini and index.html are now created and placed inside the projects folder - making it easier to just drap and drop everything on the new web location
- it is possible to preview how index.html will look when uploaded - just open/doubleclick it from disk to see the result
- Added WinBuilder's License Agreement inside WinBuilder.exe and a button to view it on the Options tab - no more extra files needed to distribute, wb can now be distributed as standalone exe.
- Backup tool - create button will warn whenever the projects folder is not removed as specified by the option to remove this folder after creating a backup
- Removed the right-click option to remove projects from the main window
- When pressing the Play button without selecting a valid source - the Source path edit box will flash a few times as a reminder of the need to input a value
- Added right-click option on the main window to upload scripts straight into the web server.

It is already possible to righ-click any script from the main window and upload it to your web server - but first it will be needed to test the ftp upload configuration on the tool box.

No progress bar added while uploading yet - this is the first release, so it should be added soon after more testings - I'm currently using a FileZilla FTP server from xampp for testing the ftp client on my laptop but this is too fast to properly adapt to a regular web connection.

MedEvil: I was hoping that this new method would solve your connections issues - can you test the FTP client and see if you can download/upload files with it?

If this works then perhaps using FTP download is also a viable alternative for cases where HTTP download is not possible.

Everyone- thank you very much for the detailed comments and feedback - it's very motivating! :P

Again no download. Same error as with Beta2.
As an added bonus, i get now an 'List index out of bounds' error, when i start WB. :P
As for testing the ftp client. Can you PM me the access data, i don't know them.

Try your own account at boot-land.net - it's meant to work with it.

Go to the ftp manager and add your username, password along with ftp path - medevil.boot-land.net

Press the Connect button to see the message box.

Path can be / to use the root folder

------------------------------

If you can connect, upload and download using this - these are good news.. :P

------------------------------
For more advanced testings you can also try out xampp to quickly create an FTP/HTML/mySql server on your computer:
http://www.apachefri...g/en/xampp.html

No installation required - Just download, unpack and run setup_xampp.bat

Then you click on xampp-control.exe and start all services from a GUI (Filezilla, Apache, mySQL) - typing localhost on Opera will point you back to the HTDOCS subfolder from Xampp.

Using ftp:

Typing localhost as host for the ftp client will go to the anonymous sub-folder where you can login as "anonymous" without need to input a password. This user has only read permissions, but you can modify this from the FileZillaFTP sub-folder clicking on "FileZilla Server Interface.exe" and add permission of write to this user - just look for the options to see how to do this.

Ftp manager works fine.
Though it would be a good idea, to point somewhere out, that only the servername without protocol is required.
name.boot-land.net - is correct
ftp://name.boot-land.net - brings an error

Maybe a simple 'ftp://' before the textbox?

Most confusing, the tabs do something strange. When i click on Tools, i get only a tool tab. But when i close tools, i get the tool tab in the same row as the other tabs? :P

:P

Ftp manager works fine.
Though it would be a good idea, to point somewhere out, that only the servername without protocol is required.
name.boot-land.net - is correct
ftp://name.boot-land.net - brings an error

Thanks for the testing - will ftp download as an option! :P

Regarding the tools tab - just an experiment - will correct it.. :P

Hi everyone!

A new beta has been uploaded - it just contains winbuilder.exe and nothing more is required since it has hardcoded by default the most commonly used settings, even the web server is now pointing to http://updates.boot-land.net from where people can also visit the site to see wich updates/files are available for download.

Also moved the web server edit box to the updates center, and there is a small issue displaying the progress bar following the current download file - altought the overall download progressbar is working just fine - it will also not seem to be hanged, so people can be doing other things while wb is downloading newer scripts.

Also worth mentioning that it's much easier to create a web server now, here's the quick steps:
  • Create a "clean" Projects folder, removing all unwanted temporary files that are created during the build process. Clean all references to your source CD on the paths tab.

  • Go to the tools box, "Upload config" tab, press the "Create" button

  • Upload all files and subfolders inside your projects folder using your favorite ftp client

  • Write the http path to where updates.ini on the update center
You're ready to distro your modded wb along with the custom winbuilder.ini ... :P
