The Zalman has a feature where you can have:
  • ODD Only
  • Storage mode only (HDD)
  • Dual mode (ODD+HDD)

The ODD only mode is actually very useful. When booting from an ISO, the install program can 'see' the Flash memory as a hard disk and some install programs can get confused (e.g. Windows will refuse to install onto the hard disk as it thinks it has booted from a removable drive!) - if I set the Zalman to ODD only mode, I get no problems and the install proceeds correctly.

Perhaps, the IOSel menu could have an option to select ODD mode which is then reset to Dual mode when the power is removed.

Except Win 8 will be installable from a USB Thumb by default without extra drivers, as rumored. :)

While you're at it, it'd be nice if there was an option to always disable storage mode while the disk is read-only. (e.g., if a file exists with a certain name, or if the first line in disable_storage.txt is 'TRUE')

Most of the machines I'll be using this on shouldn't be accessing the disk. And if I needed to re-enable it on an untrusted machine, I could always just boot a Linux ISO and change the option.

Bump. I'll put it a vote for the option to mount only the optical disc when in read-only mode. Do you have a timeline for this?

No timeline at the moment, but it is very high on the priority list.

Rough estimate would be end of January / early February.
