Acer AspireOne, tried 3 different ISO's (dell and retail Pro's, and a Home OEM) and blue screens at the "loading windows" step. I had used the retail disk to install XP Pro on this in the first place. Memtest gets through step3, and ubuntu boots OK.
any suggestions?

what i'm getting is an 0x0000007B error, but it does not say "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". could it be not finding the emulated USB cdrom? I did originally install this using one of the xp to usb hacks (wintoflash maybe) so it shouldn't be that XP can't see the USB controller.

Maybe it is in AHCI mode and you originally used an XP installer which had AHCI drivers already in?

fairly sure they were built from the same image, and the machine has a very limited bios, no AHCI options. it's possible this is the case anyway, however, doesn't SP3 add AHCI mode support?

Opened a case in the bug tracker for this, I'll boot up several machines with WinXP Pro and Home OEM images on isosticks and see what's up.
Just to be sure, was the isostick running r1570 when this happened? That revision fixes some stability issues for booting images that could explain this.

tried rolling back a version, no change.
also tried making a new ISO of a disk that works, and it blue screens too. this is a different error than when it can't find the HDD, it's like it can't find the CDROM.

The acid test would be to use a USB DVD/CD drive with the CD in it and install XP. Then use the same ISO on isostick to do the same thing.
It is not clear from your description if you are using a CD in an internal drive or an external USB DVD/CD drive?

IDE cdrom on a usb->ide adapter works, isostick does not.

Found the problem, published firmware r1574 (beta) as a proposed fix.
Tested booting WinXP SP3, Debian, memtest86+, and various others.
Please confirm the fix whenever is convenient
