Hello,

After successfully making a VistaPE boot disk, I tried to make a NaughtyPE disk, but I am having problems. I use WinBuilder 078 SP3 and WindowsXP and Windows AIK. I use the "Recommended" build. The entire project assembles but I get these three errors:

(Word Pad) Expand - Failed to copy [C:\WinXP\i386\msftedit.dl_] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\NaughtyPE\i386\system32\msftedit.dl_]: The system cannot find the file specified.

(USB Mass Storage Devices) Expand - Failed to copy [C:\WinXP\i386\usbehci.sy_] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\NaughtyPE\i386\system32\drivers\usbehci.sy_]: The system cannot find the file specified.

(XPE - pnp multimedia) Expand - Failed to copy [C:\WinXP\i386\sdhcinst.dl_] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\NaughtyPE\I386\system32\sdhcinst.dl_]: The system cannot find the file specified.

After the .iso file is burned to CD (I use Nero ROM) when I try to boot I get this error:

The entry "ntkrnlmp.exe" in the [SourceDisksFiles] section of the INF file is corrupt or missing. Setup cannot continue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please try to build NaughtyPE again with eighter WB077RC2 or WB078SP6.
WB077RC2 is thoroughly tested to work without problem. WB078SP6 is in testing stages and has so far not shown any big problems.
Versions inbetween are not tested and unsupported!

After trying WinBuilder 078 SP 6 the three errors above changed to these 3:

(Explorer.Script) CopyOrExpand - Failed to copy [C:\WinXP\I386\XPSP2RES.dl_] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\NaughtyPE\I386\System32\XPSP2res.dll]: The system cannot find the file specified.

(api.script) CopyOrExpand - Failed to copy [C:\WinXP\I386\wshbth.dl_] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\NaughtyPE\I386\System32\wshbth.dll]: The system cannot find the file specified.

(XPE - pnp multimedia) Expand - Failed to copy [C:\WinXP\i386\sdhcinst.dl_] to: [%BaseDir%\Target\NaughtyPE\I386\system32\sdhcinst.dl_]: The system cannot find the file specified.

And when I boot the CD I get the Blue Screen of Death.

I have not located a copy of the file WB077RC2 to try that version.

No need to look for the older version. You should have gotten a working build without (reported) errors with WB078SP6.

Please zip the log file and post it here, so that i can have a look what is going on.

Upfront a few things to check.
Do those files exist in your source CD?
Do you use by chance a OEM CD of XP as source?
Is the file system of the drive you run NaughtyPE from anything but NTFS?
Did you make any changes in the Basic folder?
Select the download tab to check, if you might not got all needed files. (The server has some troubles at the moment.)

Okay, I found the solution. Everything working. Here is what the problem was...

I used 4 different Windows XP CD's and everyone it turned out was SP1.
I found my archive for SP2 and unzipped it into the WindowsXP i386 folder and the files
were now there for WinBuilder to find. Voila! No errors and all is well.
I tested on an XP machine and it boote great.
But on a Vista machine it bombs with blue screen.

I'm guessing these boot CD's only work with same OS unless under VMWare.

I don't know how to send thank you, but I am grateful for your time and effort.

A PE doesn't care about the OS that usually runs on the machine. Just the hardware.
Do i assume right that with a Vista machine you mean a newer computer?

I assume that your CD/DVD drive is a SATA one and NaughtyPE misses the right driver for it.
If you tell me, what the blue screen says and what kind of controller your Vista machine uses, i'm sure we can get it to work on that machine too.

Hey, got an easy way for you to check, if it is really a driver problem.
When booting NaughtyPE on your Vista machine, go into the BIOS and select 'IDE modus' or 'PATA modus' or whatever it may be called in the BIOS. If NaughtyPE then boots fine, the problem is the Sata controller driver.

Old machine from 2002.

New machine last year - Quad core.

Drives default are Sata - RAID

changed BIOS to IDE, same blue screen after WindowsXP starts to load.

Message is - STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78AE528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

That's odd, i have a brand new Quadcore myself and NaughtyPE runs fine in IDE and SATA mode.

You can try to turn off AHCI.

But i'm pretty sure the problem can be solved by putting the needed driver in NaughtyPE.
For that, you will have to give me some info or you could try using LiveXP\Drivers\4.Storage\DP's-Build_MassStorageDrivers scripts (both) from the LiveXP server.
It is more uptodate and might contain the needed driver.

I would need the name of the controllerchip. It should start with >Intel<.
If this info is not in the manual for your mainboard, you should also find it in the device manager.

The Intel ICH8R driver is already in the SATA script.
Will look for a ICH9R one and post back.

Have thrown a script together for testing.
It goes into NaugtyPE drivers and should automaticly turn the SATA script off. If not, do it yourself.

Checked the link again. It works fine.

What to do with the file:

- make a fresh build

Testing now.

Okay so I did the following:

- check in NaughtyPE\Drivers if the Sata script has no checkmark, if it has, uncheck it
- make a fresh build

Results were the same. WinBuilder reports no errors,
iso burns to CD. Boot up results in everything okay until WindowsXP screen.
Bar goes across at bottom 4 times then blue screen of death.

Sorry, i'm a bit clueless at the moment.
So late in the boot process that has to be something else but the SATA driver, imo. But what?

Maybe you can give Lancelots LiveXP a spin.
Na matter what the result is, two independant PE should help us narrow down, what goes wrong.

extract to an empty folder and make the build as usual
and make a test boot to see how it works on the pc you get bsod.

I give no promise, whatever the result, it will help both livexp and naughtype
