The search page does not anymore:
  • autocomplete Author (against the list of members)
  • match partial names
the combined effect of the above makes it VERY, VERY difficult to find anything. ;)

The options available for WHERE to search are nonsensical:
  • Topic titles & posts
  • Posts only

Obviously having the ability to search in:
  • Topic titles (only)
would give less AND more "targeted" results. :whistling:
Just think if you are looking for the release thread of an app or script by searching the actual name of the app or script .....

I understand your comments but these are Union rules to prevent unemployement.

If we improve the current search system, Finders and Oracle priests will quickly become unemployed as nobody will resort to them as knowledge becomes easier to find.

So, we can't do much for the internal search system. But we can try to outsource the default search onto google to provide more specialized searches at lower cost of implementation on our side.

The feature you mention could be used with an "allintitle:" parameter as described on http://www.googlegui..._operators.html

Coding a front end that eases to select and mix these parameters is relatively simple when compared to change the search code of the forum software.

Well, even easier would have been to leave the "old" board search code, that DID work as expected. ;)

As often happens, it is not anything more of a little nuisance for "The Finder" , but it may be a seruois drawback for a lot of less experienced users.

I already had a number of examples about the good IPB developers to do - to say the least - queer and senseless "betterings", I just wanted to have a confirmation that the blame is to be put on them and that there is not a simple setting that you or Mikorist HAL9000 can change.

BTW, the "old" software - if I recall correctly  - looked for BOTH "real" member names and for "display" member name, right now, we will need a conversion table.
While the shift from jaclaz to was_jaclaz and from psc to pscEx has been at least documented, the one from Nuno Brito to Megabyte and from Mikorist to HAL9000 has been sneakily applied, but I do understand how this was made mainly to easen life of board members, helping them in finding less info, that would otherwise confuse them too much. :whistling:

If you prefer, as much as you like to find some work to do for Finders and Oracle priests, I like to find some work to do for the board mantainers and programmers. :worship:

Yes, it also made life easier for hackers to take down our site if we didn't updated the board software.

Yes, we care. :wheelchair:

I was assuming that the board search code has very little to do with keeping hackers outside. :wheelchair:

Are you telling me that porting the "old" code (or just it's behaviour) to the "new" board was/is:
  • impossible
  • impossible for you :)
  • not even attempted

OT  this may suit your new style :

I can confirm that not only the new search is stoopid  , it also doesn't work as it should. :confused1:

Try searching for posts with Author "Medevil" and keyword "enough". :smiling9:
