Greetings, internet user.

There is a VMLite site that runs into guest operating system in virtual machine. I found that I could boot into virtual hard disk (VHD) using VBoot, but I can't, because it was expired Jan-15-2012. Once I boot into the VHD using VBoot (which is already expired) I get BSOD (blue scren of death). I set the BIOS date from time to time, then boot into VHD again, but it always get BSOD. So I don't know what to do. Any ideas? Thank you.

You mean like buying a license for it?

http://www.vmlite.co...153&id=38:vboot

This is a trial and beta version, which expires on Jan-15-2012. After expired, Windows virtual disks won't boot, and BSOD will occur. You can purchase our paid version, which costs $179 for a license that can boot 5 computers at the same time, $79 for a license that boots a single computer. Computers can be different ones. Click here to purchase.

Or do you want assistance with other free (both as in freedom and in free beer) methods/tools?

Yes, only they can buy license.

Is there any other way to boot to VHD rather than using VBoot?

Sure. :)

Start reading the links given here:

http://reboot.pro/to...e-6#entry172272

Then follow the discussion starting from here:

http://reboot.pro/to...ows-7/?p=172280

AND read this guide (to get the basics):

http://diddy.boot-land.net/firadisk/

and if needed:

http://diddy.boot-la...os/Grub4dos.htm

Basically there are three known (and tested) ways to boot a NT based OS from a VHD (BTW, if you specify the OS you want to boot it may help providing you more targeted info):

  1. Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 "native" (only some versions are licensed for this)
  2. *any* NT with Vboot (Commercial)
  3. *any* NT with grub4dos and either Firadisk or WinVblock (Free)

#3 can be further divided into "ramdisk" (where the .vhd image is mapped to memory) and "filedisk" (where the image is mapped to disk), and for both there are two freeware drivers, developed by members of the board, Firadisk and Winvblock.

These two drivers are pretty much "interchangeable" and using one or the other usually does not make a difference, just choose one (in the given links the Firadisk one is used mainly)

And if you look closer at their web site, they basically modified GRUB2 to boot into VirtualBOX code that allows the OS to run from the VHD.

What are you trying to do?   Run a VHD on a "bare metal" system?  Or are you just trying to run the OS as a "child" in a virtual machine or ???

And not just "what", but the more you can also give as to "WHY" you want to do something, the more we can try to help.

p.s. Since their "demo" hasn't been updated in a while, and the web site itself still thinks it is "copyright 2012", doesn't look like they are too "active"...

VBoot and GRUB2 with grub.cfg file is the same, but Ubuntu with GRUB2 cannot boot into VHD.

No developers can make a program which is the easy way to boot VHD.

Why is that? Because I want to boot Windows 98, Windows 2000, and other VHDs. So can anyone make a program that can easily boot VHD as a VBoot program, instead of making tutorial on how to add VHD? People may find hard to boot VHD.

Well, by whining  it's unprobable you will get that :dubbio:.

You can try screaming and stamping your feet (hard), it usually works better. :whistling:

If you really *want* to boot *whatever* .vhd , you can use Vboot (at a mere US$ 79) OR learn how to use other available tools, where available.

OR you can pay a programmer to create that easy program for you (of course capable of booting each and every OS ever made).

Everything, and at once, and easy, and FREE (as in free beer)! Sheesh!  :frusty:

Does Grub4Dos support .vhd format?

If so, please show me a few examples on how to boot VHD, such as Windows NT/2000/XP and Windows 9x/ME and other VHDs.

Yes, you have been told as much in first reply.
If so, please show me a few examples on how to boot VHD, such as Windows NT/2000/XP and Windows 9x/ME and other VHDs.
You have ALREADY been shown such a few examples (limited to XP/7).
JFYI, the VMLITE you mentioned would ONLY do for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7, 2008 R2.
READ on the grub4dos readme.txt, a "static" VHD is simply a RAW image with a single sector appended, about 9x/Me.

For the "Other" use SEARCH, if you want to boot ANY .iso:

all the information you need is already done if you just USE the search function or google someone should have to make a new tutorial if one has already been made(several times across the web)

heres one on this site

http://reboot.pro/to...ot-raw-hdd-img/

i first found this one from google which lead me here(reboot.pro) after RESEARCHING what i wanted to do

http://www.linuxbyex...usb-disk.html

i just substituted Internal drive HD for USB and have two separate bootable XP's and a 7 along with a free dos so 4 VHD's booting from a grub4dos menu all learned from searching the site.

only saying applys here, "give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach him to fish he eats for a life time" telling you to search the site and google is teaching you to fish

Booting VHD with Grub4Dos is not an easy way. It takes a lot of practice.

If the programmer of VMLite does not make any more updates of their programs and their website, the next year will pass and then I shall ask VMLite why didn't they do it. So we'll see if they can do it.

I think I have no other way of booting the unlimited operating system such as Windows, Linux, or any other operating system on VHD.

If anyone has the solution of booting the VHD, please leave a reply. If anyone who made a program that can boot an unlimited operating system such as Windows, Linux, and other operating systems on VHD, please leave a reply here.

Thank you. And excuse me if I bothered anyone.
