I'm going to recommend the use of some FREE programs I use to reduce telemetry as much as possible.

O&O ShutUp10: (Only for Windows 10), this is a portable & free program it is good to control many OS options from a single location.  Also let you reduce the telemetry, use it after you activate your OS on Win Servers, when using the Home and Pro versions, it doesn't remove anything but deactivate serveral services, and depending on your selections this may interfere with activation, this happened to me, when making a fresh reinstall of 10 on my PC, wich was previously activated by HWID and I learned the lesson the hard way.

W10-Block: Attached on this post, (only for 7 and 8.x). this is a command file created by abbodi1406, created initially to avoid been updated to 10, that's why the name, but it is good to reduce telemetry, that started to be introduced on this systems updates about the end of 2017, it is recommended to run it after first install and after the OS reboot that fololws installing updates. After running the W10-Block.cmd file a reboot is required to let chages take effect.

Firewall App Blocker (Fab) v1.7: (For 7 to 10), this is a portable & free program to easily control the Windows Firewall, if selecting White List it blocks all inbond and outbond trafic, only the executables you allow can connect to Internet, It is very simple but works fantastic, I have several years using it. Just extract it to a folder on the root of the OS and make a link on your prefered location. attached a sample my white list, just put it on same folder and import it, those that are allow for Avast are only to let it download virus definition updates, for Avast program update better allow all the others or temporary disable the white list to let it do it.

Simple Firefox Backup: This is not related to block telemetry, but it is a portable & free program very useful tool to copy all your preferences, saved login password, advertising blocker and its settings, etc. from a user of FireFox to same browser installed on another PC as long as using the same user name.

I know FireFox has this service integrated (sync) but I prefer to keep my personal passwords at home and not on a server that could be hacked.

I wanted to quote this post from wimb in another topic, to keep info together:

And finally to control incoming and outgoing connections, see: Firewall App Blocker (Fab)

Select the white list and then the programs allowed to connect to Internet, usually only the browser is enough, and you can additionally reinforce control with specific inbound and outbound blocking rules too.

The Firewall App Blocker (Fab) is working quite well using Enable WhiteList with Allow Internet Browser only

and is probably the easiest way to block unwanted internet traffic including Windows Update.

Thanks

Since several years ago I have being using Multi-OEM/Retail Project {MRP} - Mk3 (applies from 7 to 10) started by The_Guardian and continued by mxman 2k

This has proven to be very useful when I have to reinstall the OS on my PCs because of lack of backup image or in case a HD total failure, or sometimes when the backup image is too old I prefer to do a clean install. Or on new installs on VHDs even to only run some tests.

Spoiler

It contains some tools and scripts/commands to let you control more deeply certain aspects of the installation as some options when installing to a SSD device, disable/remove many telemetry settings and services, PC and desktop additional context menus, control/avoid Updates, stop third party drivers installation, an option to disable the requirement of sha256 driver signature (which can be useful in case of old devices with lack of current drivers), and a lot of optional settings that will be ready to use the first time you arrive to the desktop, it let you totally safely avoid the install of some Win10 Apss if you want (not all since some may create issues), all this settings will be contained into the MRPConfig.ini file once created by MRPConfigCreator, and latter copied by the user to the provided $oem$ folder, only selecting $oem$ during installation with WinNTSetup is all required, or copy it to sources folder if installing from a USB device.

File OEM's.7z (36 MB +) can be removed from $oem$ folder, it is used to add the respective desktop background image and some other images usually applied on OEM equipments as HP, Acer and all others including some optional, if OEM's.7z is removed then usual OS images will be unchanged.

On Optional folder of the project there is also the additional WinTel.cmd, to also integrate it during the Oobe Pass of install just add it to the $oem$ folder and it will be applied by the project DeCompile.exe

Additionally WinTel.cmd script can be run on an installed OS (As admin, reboot required after run it).

I recommend to first take a closer look to the WinTel.cmd, basically all settings are safe but it includes some options the user can edit to fit better his preferences/likes.

This gives additional control of some sevices related to Telemetry and Diagnosis folder and .etl files.  Also adds some extra rules to fully block some know telemetry inbound and outbound trafic on Firewall.

NOTE: The script is valid from 7 to 10, it is coded to detect the OS version.
