Hello reboot world. I am just getting back into the wonderful world of coding & scripting, so i guess i'm kinda green all over again. i am currently a grad student @ itt-tech and would like to really strenghthen my skills like u guy's. One of my requests today is that u please assist me in getting this matter of recurring error message " win7pe can not be run from inside a user's profile directory"(God that's annoying). I tried to create another directory folder for the target file like a previous post said 2 but it did not work 4 me. Maybe i'm an idiot or maye it's just not my year... i don't know the latter. another of the messages is "Unrecognized command:[ReadENV]" and "Please use boot.wim!". I am reall anxious 2 learn how to build again and from the looks of alot of the coments, everyone's pretty much geetin it and havin fun doin it. Can someone please bail an aspiring techy out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure, happy to help. First, try making your project directory (location you run Winbuilder from) someplace clean and simple, like "C:\Project" or similar, keep it at the root of the drive and avoid long, complicated names. Also avoid any location inside My Documents or Users (personal profile) as this will cause the issue you describe. If running on Windows 7/Vista, make sure to rt-click Winbuilder and choose 'run as administrator'. Hopefully that gets you started, if you still experience any issue, post back and provide as much information as you can on your particular setup.

what else is annoying is people that write their whole post in red! please don't do that!

place your winbuilder folder directly on the C: (or another letter) drive. Desktop/my documents/etc are all part of your user profile directory which may contain spaces which raises hell with some console apps used in building.

Sure, happy to help. First, try making your project directory (location you run Winbuilder from) someplace clean and simple, like "C:\Project" or similar, keep it at the root of the drive and avoid long, complicated names. Also avoid any location inside My Documents or Users (personal profile) as this will cause the issue you describe. If running on Windows 7/Vista, make sure to rt-click Winbuilder and choose 'run as administrator'. Hopefully that gets you started, if you still experience any issue, post back and provide as much information as you can on your particular setup.

Sure, happy to help. First, try making your project directory (location you run Winbuilder from) someplace clean and simple, like "C:\Project" or similar, keep it at the root of the drive and avoid long, complicated names. Also avoid any location inside My Documents or Users (personal profile) as this will cause the issue you describe. If running on Windows 7/Vista, make sure to rt-click Winbuilder and choose 'run as administrator'. Hopefully that gets you started, if you still experience any issue, post back and provide as much information as you can on your particular setup.

Looks like you're using USBDevice.script (WriteMedia->Copy to USB-Device), make sure you're following instructions in the script interface. Format the device as recommended and install Grub4Dos to MBR on your USB device (see here for instructions if needed). Personally, I don't use this script; I prefer setting up the ISO(s) with grldr on the device myself, see here under 'Mini-Tutorial: Booting LiveXP or Win7PE from Hard Drive or UFD!' for simple setup.

One more thing, rather than paste the contents of your log here, can you zip it and upload to a free hosting site, like MediaFire or similar? Then just post link here thanks.

Had to ask, but you are trying to use a usb device (ie UFD/USBHD) plugged into your
usb port, with the intent of having your Win7PE_SE build copied to it.
If Yes, forget I asked.

Next step in troubleshooting your build.

I'm am using Win7PE_SE_2011_02_10 with USBDevice.script Version [13]
So our scripts should be identical.

It would be my guess that you still have a problem with the naming of your
base directory, it has spaces or dots or dashes or the like, we will
check that below.

To troubleshoot in real time.
Change the following lines in USBDevice.script.
You will be Adding lines 84+85, cut+paste will work just fine.
Don't cut and paste the 84 or 85 though, just the text.

OK, here's the scenario. I started over from scratch and got the build to run successfully up to the Explorer Shell script. it read this...

What can i do to allow it to run succesfully through using the build option, or do i even have to do it that way. i am aware, from reading the tutorials, that there are various ways of accomplishing this but what is the most simplistic and efficient way? Could it be the source folder that's causing the problem, maybe possibly doesn't have that particular file or is it that i need to create a short cut for it. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate as my source and all other files have adhered to the build up until this point. Please help shed some light on this project for me so that i may be able to successfully complete this build. Here's the uploaded file link:

It looks like a source problem, that file (dhcp*.dll) is available in all my W7 sources. Is the one you're using OEM or modified from original in some way? This can cause known issues with Winbuilder.

There seems to be some elements of other Win7PE projects mixed in which will cause incompatibilities. Stick with running an untouched project from here: http://reboot.pro/12427/ using an unmodified, non-OEM source; once that's working you can try adding additional scripts (with caution) on top of that working build.

I know it's frustrating but not using a good source is the number one reason for issues in Winbuilder projects; you have to start with the right source or its all downhill from there. You need to have a good starting point (working build) before adding/changing things to know what works and what doesn't or things will get very confusing.
