on LEFT in WB look for VistaPE core v12 (RC1) click it ,, you should see and build a VistaPE and not a reactOS live cd if you want a vistaPE cd.

uncheck servers you dont need right now,, and try again,

Well I did what you said to (see attached screenshot) and it ran to completion to download and then I tried clicking on the PLAY button in Winbuilder and nothing happened.

I think that my connection to the download server is either having problems or the download server is. I say this because I can try a download of files get a series of errors about downloading files, delete all the files or try another download right after the first one completes and the problem files download usually.

Try to download this:
www.vistape.net/files/vistape12rc1-base.7z

suggestions:
1. make a brand new folder and extract the content of vistape12rc1-base.7z into this new folder,
don't use space in the folder name,
don't mix different projects in the same folder
2. as I know there is no such thing 'Vista Slipstream'
or at least only Microsoft knows the exact way how should to create a correct one,
so don't use any home-made slipstreamed Vista DVD as source
3. try to build with WAIK installed on the host

Damb, thought problems with server were all fixed ;) - I'm no VistaPE fan but just for test, you can download a sfx here, unpack it to C:\ and set your Vista source. As I remember, you'll need WAIK installed first (1Gig dl)

--sorry dera, didn't see you there, great minds think alike

Sorry but I am totally confused. I installed WAIK on Vista 32 Business. What do I point Winbuilder's source directory to? Vista non SP1 DVD or do I not use Winbuilder at all and use WAIK?

I use Vista SP0 as source in winbuilder, source directory points to a folder that conatians all files from Vista SP0 DVD
i also have WAIK installed in my running windows and selected in Base PreConfig

what i think they are offering is a complete VistaPE Core, so you will not have to download updates in winbuilder.

IN WINBUILDER i use BOTH (together)
source is Vista sp0
and IN winbuilder i ALSO have Base Config script pointed to working systems programsfiles\Windows AIK

What purpose does WAIK serve in your case since are you not using Winbuilder to create the ISO? Is there a FAQ or a tutorial on how to create a VistaPE or WAIK?

Amalux's sfx download is not the source,
as source you can use the Vista DVD or the WAIK.

vistape12rc1-base.7z contains the files of the VistaPE v.12 RC1 project,
not all the files are included only the core, apps scripts are not included
the content of vistape12rc1-base.7z is the same what you can download from the server: vistape.net/project

Amalux's sfx is an alternative to vistape12rc1-base.7z
Seems it is the VistaPE v.12 beta3 plus Ctmag's update pack,
the v.12 RC1 is NightMan's project and based on this update pack - but not all the changes of Ctmag are included.

Amalux please correct if I am wrong

Thanks for the clarification. So one uses either WAIK or Winbuilder to actually build the ISO but not both? Still trying to figure out what purpose WAIK plays

No
The WinBuilder builds the .iso

(of course manually you can build a PE using WAIK+commandline but that is not the VistaPE project)

WinBuilder +VistaPE project when try to create a Vista based .iso
use some files of the installed WAIK,
(exactly when try to handle the .wim files).

While theoretically WinBuilder+VistaPE v.12 RC1 project can build the .iso without WAIK installed.
but more user noticed that the v.12 RC1 project works better if the WAIK is installed on the computer.

Ok was able to create an ISO file and burnt it to a DVD. However when I tried booting another AMD computer here and the desktop came up and then a BSOD occurred with IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop code of 0A.

Winbuilder reported No errors when building VistaPE?
check log file

And whose version of VistaPE are you using?
Did you use Winbuilder and download updates from the Vista server listed or
Dera’s or Amalux’s instructions and links for downloading VistaPE

I am assuming you have Vista SP0 as source and you installed WAIK and you are using Winbuilder 74, right?
save your DVD's my iso file size is around 450mb use CD-RW

Said that it could not download PartedMagic and that is the only error.

Using Winbuilder 75 beta5 RC1 from dera's file

Hello again
In winbuilder under VistaPE Core v.12 (RC1) in the Other OS file uncheck Parted Magic Linux, (this will take care of the error, there is a fix for it somewhere but lets make a bootable disk then worry about that).

If you uncheck burn ISO in Create ISO/CD and check Run ISO in VMware you can test, view and run build in a Virtual Machine – no need to burn every build.

As far as your log file, looks good to me, maybe Dera can help with that

Sorry
I am not an experienced VistaPE user so much
so I have no idea why it happens at you
(anyway many user complain about the hardware detection of VistaPE)

P.S.
maybe you can give a try to use the older VistaPE v.11 project
(as a source you can use only the SP0, it is not SP1 compatible)
base version here:
vistape.net/files/vistape11-base.rar
download server:
vistape.net/archive

Well installed VMWare Player and the simulation worked fine on the machine which has Vista installed. Burned the ISO to CD-RW booted another machine with this CD and the same BSOD. Was going through preparing the machine withdesktop in the background and hurled around where MACHINE.INF is being used. This is the same machine on which the first BSOD occcurred. These CDs/DVDs from VistaPE are not machine specific. Right?

Problem machine has a MSI K8N Neo Platinum mb w AMD 3000+ and 1 GB of RAM.

No I use VistaPE disks on many different machines as long as they have enough ram, I don’t see that being your problem.

Check or uncheck some default setting in scripts before build
Like - base configuration - FBWF I use 128
Maybe uncheck some - addons?
Imdisk I set at Ramdisk at 50%
Remember to SAVE changes in Main Configuration
My builds (and trials) i use default settings and only make changes that are required with addition of other scripts,

When you figure it out let me know

Want to thank all those here who helped me with this but have not made any progress other than creating DVDs that cause BSoD. Going to leave VistaPE for now. Thanks again for all the help.
