Interesting paper here on how some SSDs which use onboard AES encryption can be hacked to get at files!

Not really-really. in the sense that the hacking has NOTHING to do with AES (in the sense of the encryption algorithm).

 

It is the hardware (firmware)  implementation (before and outside the actual encryption algorithm) that is vulnerable.

 

Essentially the vulnerabilities revolve around the possibility of flipping an IF THEN statement:
