But not cheap - $1264.50 for a new user. Slightly cheaper if upgrading from a recent version.

Delphi was great.

In current days seems crazy to pay so much money for an IDE and compiler.

Really miss the smallish executables and wonderful way to create GUI apps.

Well, if you cannot afford Delphi, I don' t know how much it has progressed in the meantime, but there is always Lazarus, which I am told it's not too shabby:

I use both Delphi and Lazarus : both are great.

Delphi, being a commercial product, offers lots of extra features but not every one need these.

You can perfectly develop and delivery robust software while using Lazarus (or other free IDE's).

Actually, these days, the Lazarus/FPC community is probably more active than the Delphi one.

Or at least, this community is easier to reach.

The fact that Delphi charges means I might be less inclined to consider learning it in the future. But I can always pirate the learning materials. One shouldn't have to pay for materials, for actual learning in a classroom with an instructor then it would be different. With materials you can self-teach, should be no charge for that. And even if there is an IDE, there's no reason why that shouldn't be (legally) free too.
