I'm trying to do a multiboot USB flash drive with PortableApps installed as well. I know I'm rolling the dice on that, but maybe someone can help. I formatted the drive, first to FAT32 (which failed because the version of WIndows7 I loaded was too big); so I reformatted to NTFS, then installed PortableApps first, which went okay if a bit slow. Then I loaded up XBOOT with my AIO version of Win7, a couple Ubuntu live CDs, DSL, SystemrescueCD, then UBCD (they don't call me the "Overkill Kid" for nothing).  Then I got an error after it apparently finished loading Win7:

It also failed to load Grub4Dos, I didn't get the entire error message off the dialog, but it was a Windows dialog box and no error log generated afaik.

Any help will be appreciated. TIA.

See here:
http://reboot.pro/to...3152015-163539/

(last thread before you started this one).

The idea is that BEFORE starting a new thread, one should take no more then a few minutes and have a look around, if you check the last n posts, likely m=n-1 are about this SAME error that m people asked over and over and over, as well without checking previous few threads, 99% of which are about this SAME error.

...I tried to count to ten (after following the incessant links to the potential solution), but it didn't work.

Number one: if you are the developer of this software, I appreciate your hard work in making it, and the resources you've expended to make it freely available. Thank you.

Number two:  if you are NOT the developer (which I suspect to be the case), you are in need of a serious attitude adjustment. People come here for help, after getting explicit instructions to copy and post the error log (which is echoed in the sticky in the forum itself);  none of them need your smug condescension, especially when they were following instructions. Especially when most people who aren't professional coders can't decipher the error log.

Number three:  nowhere in the error log did it say "PGK.Extensions.DLL". To most (me included), it's completely unfathomable except as a string of seemingly random words and numbers.  The only people who can figure it out are coders, or those VERY experienced with said error logs. If you would like people to actually understand what's being said in the logs (so they won't burden you with their problems and waste your obviously valuable time), then perhaps the developers need to rethink what goes into the logs, and make sure they can be understood by ordinary people.

Number four: You never addressed the specific issues I raised, namely the fact that grub4dos failed to load, or that I installed PortableApps first before running XBOOT.  And I did ask whether or not that was wrong.  You cast aspersions upon my reading comprehension;  what does it say about yours, that you failed to address the most salient points in my post (which follows TO THE LETTER the instructions given in the software and the forum)??

Number five: I did search the forum before posting;  but, because I was unable to decipher the error log, in all its obtuseness, I didn't know what to search for. I did my best, without spending the time to read each and every post in the forum (I limited that to the most recent posts). But, because I am a working man, and life support for a wallet, so I was forced to suspend the search and ask for help. My apologies if I wasted your seemingly precious time.

Customer service, even if unpaid, is still customer service. And without those customers using the product, you'd be left having to troll 4chan, looking for someone to admonish. If you're paid customer service assistance, you should know better than that.  Once upon a time, you were as ignorant as a newborn, and someone took time and effort to help educate you. Perhaps you need to remember that.

Now can we get past the bullshit, and be nice to each other??

Thank you.

Sure :).

What you have missed in your previous searches is that unfortunately (and a link to this info is given in the referenced thread):

http://reboot.pro/to...3152015-163539/

is:

http://reboot.pro/to...riam-of-shamur/

the Author of the tool passed away almost 3 years ago :(.

The tool in itself is closed source (i.e. this type of errors cannot be fixed by modifying the source) and was left in a state which - while normally fully functional - is far from being a fully checked/debugged program.

Namely and this is the error that you (just like every other guy) experienced, XBOOT needs a particular version of some (stupid) .Net libraries.

And the referenced thread:

http://reboot.pro/to...3152015-163539/

should have led you to here:

http://reboot.pro/to...orts/?p=189886

You need to fix this first, then we may talk of other errors, for which you will need to provide some more detailed report, as unfortunately this:

It also failed to load Grub4Dos, I didn't get the entire error message off the dialog, but it was a Windows dialog box and no error log generated afaik.

is not enough to even guess what the problem is.

I know that it is a PITA, but you need to provide the Standard Litany:

http://homepage.ntlw...ard-litany.html

in order to (hopefully) get valid answers/solutions/suggestions/workarounds.

My apologies for my pissiness, it's been a rough week.

I pout the required DLL (obtained from the suggested link in the last thread) into the XBOOT folder, reformatted the stick (32GB Sandisk) to NTFS again, then ran XBOOT with payloads Win7AIO, Ubuntu x64, Ubuntu i386, DBAN, Kaspersky Rescue Disk, UBCD4DOS, and SliTaz. When XBOOT ran, it only let me use GRUB4DOS as a loader, and failed to install it, saying I had to install it later (the box flies by pretty quickly); then it takes forever to try to load Win7, and once that's done, it fails the procedure, and generates the error report.

I will try this one more time, as I need to reformat a laptop tonight before hitting the road (I'm a truck driver).  If it fails again, I'll report it, but then find another method.

Also, given as this is closed-source and the developer is no longer with us, I'm thinking it's time to reverse-engineer this and make a newer and better bit of kit, before the problems multiply and render it worthless. Just a suggestion.

Thank you for your help.

Well, but there are several alternatives ("better" or "worse" is of course in the eye of the beholder), I can recommend two that are developed/supported here on reoot.pro and that are actively maintained/enhanced/etc.:

  1. Rmprepusb/Easy2boot
  2. Rufus

(but there are others of course).
