Hello.
I hope someone can help me to clarify how to do this as I am a novice.
My network card is not recognized, so I need to install it after I have started MultiPE.
I am running MultiPe with a Windows XP SP3 folder after Slipstreaming from SP1.

What I have is a bunch of files and folders with setup.exe for my network card.
1. Where do I place these files?
2. How do I start running setup.exe after having started the MultiPE DVD?

Thanks.

OK - to be a bit more "constructive"...You can't really "install" the drivers after booting, since it is a read-only media.  even if you could, XP would need to "restart" after the installation to allow it to use the drivers.

So, it is a catch-22.  What you need to do is to put the drivers into the boot image when it is built.  I am not too familiar with MultiPE project, but on other projects there is some sort of a way to do this, so my guess is ath Peter has this sort of functionality.  Look for something slimilar to a "driver packs" like script.  While you may not be using your set of files, there are available "driver packs" that cover a lot of adapters.

You also didn't say if this was for a Ethernet or a Wireless adapter.  That can also make a difference...

And while a simple "move on to Win7" may not be the answer either (depending on the adapter), I would also recommend it - unless you specifically need XP.

Good Luck

You can try to find the .SYS and .INF files for the network adapter.  They might be near your setup.exe or you might be able to extract them from the setup.exe.  Once you have these files, there are a few different ways to install the network adapter.  Windows XP forever!

My 1985 Ford Fiesta has a flat tire.

How do I replace or fix it?

You should buy a new Mercedes SLK.

Not only the given advice is NOT answering the OP question, but it also implies that somehow the OP is "inferior" in something (in this case financial capabilities).

And of course, before suggesting to get the Mercedes SLK, one should ask the OP if the new, much larger and heavier car - besides it's costs - would actually fit in the garage.

Wonko, your sarcasm is getting boring... It was fun once, twice, three times...

We all know you are the "absolutely best"

Naah, it is still fun, if you are bored by it, then simply ignore it.

But still the essence is that your reply wasn't friendly, nor - much more important - useful to the OP.

@Thopaga

Presuming that you are OK with a slightly larger build, instead of adding the single driver fro your network card, it may be easier for you to integrate to  the source the whole driverspack:

and rebuild.

Thanks to you all for your kind replies.

This really clarified everything and made me understand a lot more.

Sbaeder, I am using Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabyte Ethernet NIC.

I will have to learn more about driverpacks and SYS,INF files and installation scripts before I can do it.

It is not necessary for me to have Internet on MultiPE, but I thought it could be handy.

Sebus, I will be moving to Windows 7 when the time is ripe.

If you had seen all my software, you would have understood.

Thanks to all of you for clarifying everything.

Sorry, I have this topic overseen last time.

Maybe you give a trial to my localDriver script

In addition, multiPE has the functionality to grab the local host's NIC driver during boot.

BTW: I'm not sure whether your "MultiPe" in the first post means the multiPE project :dubbio:

Peter
