TheHive: I got the Fit-PC Slim w/ no HDD. It still has 512megs of RAM and wireless. Don't remember exactly but with the unit itself, shipping and a little bribe from a friend to cook me up some vittles it was $320. I know: too much info and yet not enough. Sorry
Jaclaz: Yup. When I say "USB card readers and flash memory sticks" I really do mean more than one. Not frustrated with your comment - I'm frustrated with the boot support. One of the flash sticks had a Debian USB bootstrap and my card readers had WinPE. I'm not giving up though. I'll try more combinations and more USB media for sure.
Sometimes the thing will fail to POST after a warm reboot. I'm starting to think heat or power issues. The hard drive might suck too much juice maybe?
The BIOs looks like an old-school AWARD setup. It has two places to enable and disable USB. If you enable the second USB a new controller appears in the device manager but does not install properly. There is also a "Entertainment/Encryption" device that you have to hunt down drivers for. Google led me back to AMD for that one. Can't install bus master IDE drivers though. The third-party universal drivers don't install. I see Win 2000 drivers but they don't work in XP.
Got a little better feel for performance. I'd compare it to an EEE PC laptop. Those things are usually clocked down to 600mhz or so. The 500mhz AMD Geode feels about the same.
Nuno: I want a SD to SSD thingie like the CR-9000: http://www.geekstuff...st-cr-9000.html You get most of the benefits of SSD (may take a performance hit). In most cases the SD cards will be cheaper and if the media fails you can just replace a SD card and not the whole thing!
