I've posted in the Windows 8 section as the Windows To Go feature was implemented in Windows 8. Also applies to Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

Thanks for the guide. Can you explain about the registry SanPolicy 4. A normal WinToGo booted from USB makes all internal drives offline anyway, so why is this necessary?

In my own tests using an image applied via wimlib-imagex all disks have been online and visible when Windows has finished installing. I've never used the Windows To Go workspace creator - this may automatically apply the sanpolicy settings.

I usually use WinToUSB to make a WinToGo VHD in just a few clicks. You can then create BCDs for it for UEFI-booting if you wish (I usually MBR-boot it by simply copying the VHDs to my E2B USB drive).
