Poitive moments:
1.1, It works.
1.2. It works without installation.
1.3, It sees all drives including Flash and Floppy (but not CD-DVD).

Other comments:
2.1.In my opinion, the scale 1GB is too big: Floppy contains 0GB.
2.2. Though it works without installation, I've obtained a report in Russian.
How it is possible? I couldn't rid from some doubts after this.
2.3. I would be glad to find out what can do this program and cannot be done
by other, For example, we can excellent work with drives by means "Acronis".
And "Fix and Recover" is incorporated in XP and W7.

The program seems to work very well at this point. There is one spelling issue. Under options where it says "Remove check disk at bot", the word bot should be boot.

Hi,

Looks a lot like my CheckDiskGUI, it's based on code from Emmanuel Kahn aka RedFlaG

My CheckDiskGUI

(Red and I (ewieldra) were both active on http://www.911cd.net/forums)

Viva,

Emiel,

I do not think you need to have this kind of action to get more some kind of recognition for your work in developing the CheckDiskGui.

Says that my code is based on your job is too offensive to me.

As I am not saving insults, I think you meant something like, "It's very similar to my own interface, or does the same as mine, or something less "based on the code of ...".

I have already more than 30 years of experience in various programming languages and for various operating systems.

Hardly ever did you were born and programs, may not even know what "RPG".

Since there do not like to take advantage of my work without my consent, I proceed the same way to all.

I developed this tool to find no one that met my needs.

And rest assured that the tool is developed that is not for sale.

Emiel, Sorry, Sorry

I'm getting older even than I thought, besides the lack of view, now also do not realize what I read.

What you said was that your code is based on "Emmanuel Kahn aka RedFlaG".

Again my apologies for this lack of understanding.

Best regards
Nuno

What happens using some logic? :dubbio:

Let's see:
  • You had some vague and unspecified doubts.
  • Emiel posted about his nice app (in NO way hinting that Nuno Borges used any of the pre-existing code).
  • Nuno Borges misunderstood and went for a tangent. :w00t:
  • Soon after, Nuno Borges understood how he got "hold of the wrong end of the stick" and excused himself for his unmotivated reaction.
IF, after this, and launching the "old" proggie, you understood better :dubbio: , this could mean:
  • that Nuno Borges actually re-used same code (no it did not happen)
  • that Emiel Wieldraaijer/Emmanuel Kahn code may contain some Russian programs (and no, again this is not the case).

Now, IF this was the case, it would mean that Nuno Borges found a more tight compression algorithm to store in 645 Kb the same Russian program that may be hidden (no there is NO hidden "russian" program in either apps) that the one Emiel Wieldraaijer supposedly (no there isn't any) put inside 911Kb (UPX compressed). :yahoo:

Translation:
  • for *any* reason (provided that you actually got a report in Russian) you have a Russian CHKDSK on your system.
  • BOTH apps are perfectly "clean" and your "unclear doubts" may represent a preoccupying tendency to carry a "vigilant scan of the environment for clues or suggestions to validate your prejudicial ideas or biases"
Everything is "cool" :matrix: now, if you want to troubleshoot your "Russian report" issue, you are welcome and I am sure everyone will try and help you, but let's let "unclear doubts", "suspects", "vague accusations" aside, OK? :)

@Nuno Borges

First thanks for the Sorry, those were in place.
You first reaction is probally the reason why in never post anything anymore on forums.

But i'm going to respond to your email posting

- Your experience in programming for more the 30 years back have nothing to do with programming nowadays.
- Most youngsters have more experience with computers and programming then people of your and even for my age
- Youngsters adapt faster much faster
- You did not find a program of your need, your GUI does the same as mine, probally you did not look

Somethings about your program

You are using a Registrated trademark in your program, i believe you mean copyright i cannot imagine you have registrated your name or your program.

You forgot an = sign Romanian
[Romanian]
1proces
2=

And as i look any further, now i can say you are copying my GUI (This does not have to mean that you are using my code). Your latest version uses a statusbar for percent, the same way as i do. further you are using the exact layout for your language file as i do even the [unknow] and the value 1 for percent.

Best regards,

Emiel

Hmmm, :dubbio: I don't think that there are so many ways to make a GUI for chkdsk

Compare with:
http://www.paehl.de/english.php

CheckDisk 1.20
http://www.paehl.de/checkdisk.zip

Posted Image

CheckDisk Current Version: 1.5.4:
https://sites.google...jects/checkdisk

https://sites.google...?attredirects=0

Posted Image
And:

http://www.magsys.co...i/magdskfmt.asp
http://www.magsys.co...magdskfmt12.zip

(you might also notice the fantasy shown by the various programmers for the name of their app ;))

I would call that "convergent evolution":
http://en.wikipedia....rgent_evolution

As an example of how one can do something different, I will cite "Rubber Ducky":

Good work! But did you build the "help" and "about" section?. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X86 French and the software is in english (I was thinking that I would see it in french [or some part...]). Work great!

@Wonko de Sane,

I rest my case, those screenshots are so much different.

@Nuno Borges,

If i were you i would change @OSLang into @MUILang for Vista and above, because Vista and Windows 7 use the @MUILang value.
Most vendors use english based Windows with Language packs. Keep up the good work and make a nice GUI

No, my dear Wonko, I haven't such global aims. I express my feelings only.

P.S. If this program is the shortest and fastest in the class of analogously working
programs, then I applaud.

No, it is not, (if we judge from size), and speed is of course the one of CHKDSK, so every other method of "judgement" is in the eye of the beholder. :)

My dear Wonko!
P.S,3, More seriously. About what operational system we speak? If we speak about XP and W7,then,
in my opinion.
main problem -

to avoid interdiction of direct access to disk,

As soon as this goal is reached,
there is well known analogously working program which contains 150977 bytes.

Take care,

L.A.G.

Dear Wonko,

I'll answer on your questions later, because I want check some my assertions
more precisely.
This time, I think, it is necessary to specify another program :

"Norton Disk Doctor" (NDD32) incorporated in "Norton Utilities" (which don't
work directly with XP and W7 because of the same reason about what I wrote in P.S.3.

Take care,

L.A.G.

Viva,

New version available today:

- The F5 key to refresh drives, only will work (must) when the program has focus.

- The sort column is improved.

- It allows you to drag and drop the drive order.

- New function to look at the log under Menu Edit -> Find.

With these improvements, and with your great help as I have almost completed this tool.

Thanks to all

Hi Nuno,

We have a new downloads portal at http://reboot.pro/files

This is a good time to place it there. It keeps track of downloads and more people will find it.

I have tested the CheckDisk Gui in a XP based PE (BartPE).
There is no percentage display an the progress box, it seems that PE1 needs a additional dll or so...

Posted Image

As for Wonko in post #4, this speaker beeps drives me crazy...
A command line parameter for setting the default to "no sound" would be nice, e.g. NDBChkdskGui.exe /nosound

Viva,

The idea of the parameter is very welcome, I'll work on it.

About the sound I think you know have the option on the menu.

I will test the state of the proceedings in a BartPE environment ..

For after the holidays, I have solved the problem of drag & drop in the drives.

Again thanks for the idea of passing parameter

Sincerely

About the sound I think you know have the option on the menu.

Yep, the suggestion (mine ;)) was to have it turned OFF by default.

We could make a poll out of it. :dubbio:

Like:

Do you prefer by deafault ;):

  • No sound
  • A stoopid and unnerving beep
  • A voice coming out of your speaker SHOUTing "HEY!, I've finished checking your stoopid disk!
  • Something else

Wonko
