Who wants to carry full ubuntu system always in is Pocket?
my usb steek can run full ubuntu10 from gruB4DOS prees to ubuntu desktop in 8 sec (i'm Serious) .

so,

1. make 1 or more partitions (ntfs,fat32) for your tools (the first one should be active) Leave unpartition 4gb or more...
2. install grUB4DOS on mbr and put grldr, menu.lst in the pramry partition
3. run ubuntu liveCD from cd/usb

title Ubuntu LiveCD

find --set-root /IMAGES/ubuntu.iso

map /IMAGES/ubuntu.iso (0xff)

map --hook

root (0xff)

kernel /casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper iso-scan/filename=/IMAGES/ubuntu.iso quiet splash --

initrd /casper/initrd.lz

boot

start ubuntu setup ,chose manualy the partitions... select the unpartition 4gb spase mark it as "/" root filesystem (ext4) and continu with the setup (no swap partition need).
5. when setup is finish you need to reinstall grub4dos on mbr Instead of grub so
6. conect your usb steek to work windows/winpe and install grUB4DOS on mbr
7. add ubuntu boot entries to your menu.lst (use your own entrie from /boot/grub.cfg )

My solution is a little better from cloning the disk because its running from multi-boot disk, when on the primary partition i have all my windows setup/run and all other tools...

on my Toshiba satalite a200 (only 1gb ram) its boot in 8 sec ;)
on my PC Q8200 (2 GB RAM) its boot in 12 sec ;)

I'm looking for a similar solution like u did. But I want to have for instance amd64 and i386 architectures from Ubuntu AND Debian on the stick to be selectable for installation purposes.
And I'm a little new to usb booting and only found this link of valuable information.
http://linux.koolsol...from-usb-drive/

Could you help me out?

Depending on what you put in it
Ubuntu installation requires about 3.5 GB

What is "prees"....a Beta version of Grub4DOS (g4d) ???

1. make 1 or more partitions (ntfs,fat32) for your tools (the first one should be active) Leave unpartition 4gb or more...
2. install grUB4DOS on mbr and put grldr, menu.lst in the pramry partition
3. run ubuntu liveCD from cd/usb

map /IMAGES/ubuntu.iso (0xff)

initrd /casper/initrd.lz
boot

Am PARTICULARLY interested in booting from a USB stick a full Debian Squeeze 6.0.1a (e.g., from the mirrors at http://debian.co.il/....1/i386/iso-cd/ and http://ftp.de.debian...1a/i386/iso-cd/), rather than a full multi-kernel (or modified kernel) Ubuntu from a multi-boot USB.

Have already viewed the Grub4DOS post '(not livecd) Boot full Ubuntu+Fedora+Mint .VHD From USB by g4d' at http://reboot.pro/13801/

Since at least Ubuntu is Debian-based, I'm wondering what specific modifications to this PRIMARY partition's menu.lst 'title Ubuntu LiveCD" section are most appropriate ??

start ubuntu setup ,cho[o]se manual[l]y the partitions... select the unpartition[ed] 4gb spase/[space] mark it as "/" root filesystem (ext4) and continu[e] with the setup (no swap partition need[ed]).
5. when setup is finish you need to reinstall grub4dos on mbr Instead of grub so
6. conect your usb steek to work windows/winpe and install grUB4DOS on mbr
7. add ubuntu boot entries to your menu.lst (use your own entrie from /boot/grub.cfg )
Depending on what you put in it
Ubuntu installation requires about 3.5 GB

Yes, each separate multi-boot partition on the USB stick should be type ext3 or ext4.
Wondering what OTHER modifications are appropriate for this multi-boot USB stick w/ Debian which may ALSO includes Slackware 13.1/13.2x in the future ??

Maybe also steps taken from Debian's 'Preparing Files for USB Memory Stick Booting' http://www.debian.or...ch04s04.html.en or else the Debian Wiki's 'http://wiki.debian.org/BootUsb' http://www.debian.or...ch04s04.html.en ???

TY for further pointers or links!!

1. To run Setup from livecd.iso that Located on your usb
2. that because after the installation is complete we want to go back to our g4d menu with the ability to boot a lot of systems

If this is so, then can't Ubuntu be booted off installation CD & the USB be selected as the target medium, therby eliminating the need of Grub4DOS prior to installation ?

Here are some further links I found, showing how to add other ISOs to "your multi-boot usb".

For the technically-inclined *, using Linux :
- Planet Ubuntu's 'Booting ISOs from GRUB 2', http://rww.name/articles/grub2iso.html
- USB Pen Drive Linux's 'Boot Multiple ISO from USB via Grub2 using Linux', http://www.pendrivel...b2-using-linux/

* note that these nearly-identical Linux methods BOTH require using Grub2 (similar to using Grub4dos)

For use in Windows:
- USB Pendrive Linux's 'YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator (Windows)', http://www.pendrivel...ot-usb-creator/
- USB Pendrive Linux's 'SARDU – Multiboot USB Creator (Windows)', http://www.pendrivel...reator-windows/

Will have to experiment with any corrected Linux distro entries to replace those in the current boot/grub/grub.cfg:

menuentry "Menu Name in GRUB boot menu goes here"
{
loopback loop /boot/iso/example.iso
linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz boot=casper iso-scan/filename=/boot/iso/example.iso noeject noprompt --
initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz
}

Thanks for the original Grub4dos posting 'add full ubuntu (not liveCD) to your multi-boot usb' :)
