Bootice is a small tool or utility which can modify/backup/restore the Master Boot Record(MBR), Partition Boot Record(PBR) of your Disk.It has both Graphical User Interface and Command Line Interface. It is an all in one tool and supports many boot managers

In the latest Bootice 1.33 there is a new "U+ V2" option under partition management. How can boot files be saved in a "Deep hidden" partition?

If you choose "Hidden" a partition/volume is made starting on LBA 256 and the fourth partition entry is filled with it's addresses in the MBR. (at first sight I can see very little "hidden" in this)

If you choose "Deep Hidden" a partition/volume is made starting on LBA 256 BUT NO partition entry for it is made in the MBR. (at first sight I can see nothing "hidden" in this but a simpler NOT addressed volume).

BootIce also creates n bootsectors with various amounts of "hidden sectors" all - by difference - pointing to the same filesystem (how these are used during booting I don't know).

Basically you can access the "Deep Hidden" filesystem (if you are working on an image) by mounting the image in IMDISK manually (giving it the 256 "blocks" offset. or, if you are using a "real disk" by creating temporarily a partition entry for it in the MBR.

Thank you. It looks like FbinstTool but without the hidden files management interface.

Also how a better bootabilty is achieved in the UltraISO USB-HDD MBR or U+ V2 mode? Is it another version of multi-bootsectors?

Optimized U+ v2 boot technology, now it is possible to boot all of your PCs with a single bootable USB flash drive

The amount of "increased bootability is - as always - debatable.

Cannot say how/what specifically the "U+V2" behaves, but the generic idea is that some motherboard will boot (as they should) as Hard Disk like device (which mean partitioned media with an active primary partition entry in the MBR).

The "increased bootability revolves around making a setup where the media is partitioned and the active partition is the fourth one (which is how some ZIP disks are made):
http://reboot.pro/to...zip-or-usb-fdd/
or where the MBR behaves also as PBR (and the stick can boot as "superfloppy") and/or with the bootsector "repeated" in a number of positions (this has been used in the so called "triple boot MBR"):
http://reboot.pro/to...-with-grub4dos/
http://nujucobian.bl...r-grub4dos.html
and/or having more than one partition on the stick (RMPREPUSB uses this "dummy" partition approach):
http://reboot.pro/to...as-a-hard-disk/

In any case, if you search long enough, you will be able to find motherboards that fail booting unless an even more specific setup is made (and some - as an example- are "allergic" to some MBR code, and need a different one), here such a case was reported/discussed:
http://reboot.pro/to...d-i-have-found/

Usually there is no real need for the "triple MBR", it should be (IMHO) seen as a "last option", and remember that there is the possibility that on some motherboards the actual SIZE of the stick may be an issue (as an example a stick 512 Mb or 1 Gb will boot normally but a larger one won't, or one that needs NOT the active partition flag :frusty:).

Yes but Fbinst and U+ beat typical MBR/format schemes in my testing of a few old PCs.

I noticed that in Bootice "U+V2", unlike "U+V1", is only available for "removable" disks. Is there a reason for it?
