trying the latest version of winreduce - just some 50-meg gain, but still better than none at all.

Thank you for the File Lists.

What do you use as Internet Browser in Mini VHD ?

I see Edge is missing. Do you use internal old Internet explorer or do you make use of external Browser ?

Just for comparison:

You have 40900 files whereas my Mini-10x64 has now  20217 files and has built-in Microsoft Edge

You have UsedSize = 2.89 GB and my UsedSize = 1.77 GB (1.99 GB for running OS)

My old Mini-10x64 of january 2021 has 24276 files and LZX UsedSize = 1.97 GB and  LZX WIM = 1.62 GB

So the gain is about 4000 less files and 220 MB less UsedSize as compared to earlier this year ....

Sorry for having forgotten to answer this question

I use maxthon portable for a browser - obviously outside the vhd - have not found any facility better than passkeeper in outomating the keeping of my passwords to the few sites I have to visit twice a year (salary sheets for the tax office and the like) - if u know better, pls let me know.

I have the nvidia driver installed (albeit reduced to its minimum)

As for the vhd size, you noticed I dont delete net.framework to keep some programs work. to the same end, after winsxs and syswow64 reductions, I always have to reintegrate the manifest subfolder in the former and the root files in the latter.

is all this compatible with the difference in size? can u think of better alternatives?

Thank you for name of MaxthonPortable which is Chromium based Portable Internet Browser quite comparable to Edge

I think indeed that nvidia driver + Microsoft.NET + assembly and some more changes can account for the differences in UsedSize and number of files.

of course, I can't have my cake and eat it. and I guess I forgot to tell u that I have also deleted what I could from driverstore\filerepository and the windows\inf subfolders (I do not need system portability). on the other hand, at least I have a fully working system, without my relinquishing anything i find sensible to keep. I am not so much in favor of having several vhds, each for a different purpose. I am not a minimalist; I just advocate minimalism within maximalism.

btw, if i lzx my vhd offline, it will shrink from 2,89gb to 2,77gb, which I consider negligible.

yet a few more hundred megs gained in free space; in any case, wimb, talking about maxthon, I do not think I fully made myself understood - beside this latest initiative (getting rid of edge if one does not use it, which is always useful), I also envisaged ur possible suggestions as to some other browsing software, equivalent to maxthon passkeeper-wise, which would work even without some of the things I have to leave undeleted in order to make it work (as is, alas, the case with maxthon).

ps.: for the time being, as I twigged earlier, min used space 2.61gb, still better than no space gain at all.

pps: btw, I have just bumped into this subfolder: C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows

would u pls look into it and see what can safely be deleted? some subdirs are empty and easily recreated, which I have already turned into 0-byte files (I hope safely).

For browser I use FireFox, it also let you keep the passwords of frecuently visited sites, there is a portable version (all langs available to download) here: https://portableapps...irefox_portable, that can be located outside the VHD.

The download includes x86 and x64 versions. If you only use the x64 version, after extraction, just delete \FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox folder, (taken care to keep \FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox64) to get rid of x86 version and save 196 MB.

Used space of my ES international version is 98.3 MB, after deleting the \FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox folder, configure it to my preferences, and Compact LZX mode compress it.

I like FireFox better than any Chromium based browser, FireFox has a lot of privacy improvements not available in other browsers, and I also recommend uBlock Origin plug in for it, (big collection of lists to avoid unsafe sites, it does not make connection slower, automatic or manually updatable).

But of course it depends of user preferences.

Thanks for the detailed Info on FireFox  :)

So I think we can agree to remove  Edge to make the UsedSize in Mini-10x64 VHD a lot smaller.

In that case I will make the removal of Edge more permanent.

; Edge browser can be removed and replaced by external browser MaxthonPortable
\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge
......
\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge

I forgot to remove Edge User Data in Users folder.

What else can be removed from Mini-10x64 without using basic functionality,

which is a small portable OS on USB and booting from RAMDISK and using portable Apps where possible.

Required is that all hardware remains supported and all drivers for other hardware remain installable and available.

You are welcome my friend.

1 - and 2 - : Agree.

3 - : Good you noticed it, I assume in next version it will be included.

4 - : I think there is no more significative gain in removing something else, and the risk to lose basic functionality will become bigger.

yes, I could not agree more on this with the 2 of u. the only thing of it is, how do I physically and/or logically transfer all data from maxthon's passkeeper to firefox or whatever? and, ... do I have to enter my usernames and passwords all the time, as it is a portable version of the browser? does the substitute software guarantee persistence?

Edge browser can be removed and replaced by external browser MaxthonPortable; wonderful!! how to?

as for functionality, no loss so far, and if there should be, we will take good care to backtrack the changes and restore everything to the previous best possible alternative. don't forget we have ;'s

plus, there is another thing I would like to say before I forget ... provided I managed to replace the edge data subfolder with my favourite browser's, don't u think it is better off staying  outside the vhd, e.g. in the portable browser folder as it has been in ever since? Me, I have not had the subfolders wimb mentioned (\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge ... \Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge) for ages now, and no issues have I had.

On the full installed FireFox just after installation it gives you an option to transfer all your info from other browsers, not sure if you can do it on portable version, as I never have the need to do it because I only use FireFox, on FireFox you are able to keep the markers of your favorite sites and also the passwords, I suggest you to download and test it, this way you will answer yourself all your possible questions.
