All we have to do is keep working on what we agree on and come to some conclusion. The online option is still on the table and people keep whining about it like if anyone said we should not do it.
Even online, we still need an agnda!
Why not spend some productive time putting it together.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And, please, anyone who tend to think so, I am not the one that would benefit. I clearly laid out my motives and what I am prepared to do for you all. You don't have to take it, and I have nothing to new to add.
Please, let's work on puting something together that would be a benefit to the community. And just for kicks, I still believe that REBOOTers getting together will make them all better off. It already is what it is, this is about the next level.

To clear the scope of the above referenced post, it was NOT about what people would like to hear, but about people who was willing to talk (and about what).
If you prefer the idea was not a "poll-like" request to know what people would be interested in, or about who should do what (always somebody else BTW), but a request to people willing to take part to the meeting as speaker or contributor to step forward and declare what they would talk about (or present a paper about), how much time is needed for their intervention, etc., etc.

Would Wonko entertain stepping forward and answering his "request", given the assumed conditions for the Conference listed in it?Request to people willing to take part to the meeting as speaker or contributor to step forward and declare what they would talk about (or present a paper about), how much time is needed for their intervention, etc., etc.

(I was asked by Holmes.Sherlock
to post this here, since I am normally active on TLF)
This sounds like something I'd attend when I am 18. But for the first 2 years I'd have to attend via video. It sounds pretty cool!

This is not a hobby but a necessary skill that really needs a better understanding worldwide.
We are trying to make it easier and clearer without having to spend too much time jumping around and spend countless hours on the forum just to get the proper understanding of things.
There is a real need.
Granted some here might not "need" the conference, but those are the very people we need *for* the conference.
If there is anything you feel would be of value to you, please state it, hoping it gets covered. That is what will both tell us what to focus on, and make it worth your time.
Thank you!

The topic is already is much discussed. More it will elongate, more are likely to loss their interest. So, let's try to consolidate & come to a consensus ASAP. Here I share my views:
- Venue: Washington D.C & Online
- Date : Around first week of June
- Online meeting software: Let's try OpenMeetings, Cisco WebEx is paid product, but we can go for WebEx Beta, it's still free. Don't know about Office Live Meeting
- Content : Already listed down.
- Presenter: Most will not pay heed to your appeal if you simply list down their names aon a thread. Please PM them indivisually & get their response.
- Timing: To be decided once date is finalized
- Duration: To be decided once Content & Presenters are finalized.

I don't know anything about this platform, but I will dust off a server and install a sandbox to see what's needed. We need to know what the bandwidth requirements are and how we'll cover that. From what I know, every connection is an additional consumption, so depending on the number of participants, the strategy differs. If there is a large number of online participants, we may have to resort to a service that will charge for bandwidth on demand. The bandwidth here will be the item to focus on because there usually is a cost associated to it, and it is limited depending on the area you are in.

Agreed.
The first post should consolidate things as we go.
The list of names and topics on it is for people who do not want to participate in the discussion to get quick updates. It is also for Nuno to get a quick look so he can see who to PM. I'd rather leave the PMing to those who know them personally.
Nuno is the process of contacting the presenters to confirm availability. I will update the first post by ending the line items "[confirmed]" as we get confirmations. It should not take much longer to get a good picture of what we'll be doing.

We're still trying to work things out.
Apparently some members are threatening others, thus the complication, but we'll find a way I'm sure.
Please don't despair. this is the 21st century, there' all kinds of ways to make things happen.
to be continued...
N.B. (I'm sure wonko will be able to work something out. He always seems to come up with solutions... )

The "we" did not include wonko. I was just picking on him just for the fun of it. What will my life be without a little fun?
Apparently, the situation is more serious than I thought, but the fact remains that the idea is still on the table while things are being sorted out.
Nuno will work his stuff out and WE the people will have our conference (that includes you! ).
