Android version 4.0.3 Kernel version 3.0.8+

Under: Settings>Backup & reset>Reset tablet>Erase everything

I expect it "erase everything" but after a reboot I use explorer to look in internal memory and find there lots of folders and files from previous apps I had loaded! all the apps are gone except the originals that came preloaded with the tablet though.

so now I want to learn exactly what folders and files in the internal memoryROM must NOT be deleted. Ive been searching but have not found any info about this yet.

I know that I can delete folders from previous apps safely but if the reset did not delete these then what else did it not delete?

this bugs me because I want to make a back up of this unit exactly as it came out of the box when new so that I can use it in the future when I learn more about making a custom ROM

if I had known this ahead of time I would have went directly to learning how to backup instead of experimenting with apps!

is there another way to get back to a factory original state without manually deleting each thing? I suppose I will try to look at the internal memory from PC via USB connection now to see if I can use timestamps to help with this.

anyone have any good suggestions that may help me with this? thanks

As I know, the android os comes with different partitions. And the "reset options" only formats one partition, the /cache I think,  not the /system one or /sdcard one. Maybe /userdata too.

I found an OEM .zip image and a modified CWM (ClockWorkMod) that installs though OEM recovery and without having root access available so I have restored to original and backed up that ROM with CWM.

next is ADB and a program named RootThat http://www.slatedroi...root-and-gapps/

Ive went though this already but now I have a clean backup so when I learn how to customize the ROM I will have something clean to work with.

I am new in Android, recently y bought a chinese tablet with Android 4.2.2 on it:

 

CPU: A20 (dual core)

Ram: 1 GB

Internal storage (SD): 4 GB (unused)

Display: 7" capacitive touch screan

 

Please explain me how are the partitions in an Android tablet?, I have installed Android 4.3 for x86 in Virtual Box using Ext3 format, but this doesn't helped me to understand the real world on a tablet.

that is a great question and one worthy of its own topic so feel free to start one if you want.

I wish I could answer it so I will second the question;-) I am still trying to understand backups and ROMs, etc. I see that when I make a complete back up from CWM recovery that it has several .img files in it so maybe each .img is mounted as its own partition?

I dont know.. I will let you know if/when I do and ask that you please do the same OK?
