The method proposed by sara is not wokring. Boot error, unable to load text installer (Cannot install). Error reported: error 15: File not found.

I continue my search...

"winsetupfromusb" tool proved itself in thousands of users ...
I would suggest you check yourself ... start in:
1. fully wipe your usb drive + cleen mbr & bootsector
2. install gRUB4DOS to mbr & make sure it'S boot to menu.lst
3. use "winsetupfromusb" tool to preper your xp setup
4. try on fiew pc's , maby your bios is bagi....

you also use the iso maping method (direct/ram), iT'S simple and faster....

Each try take me 2 hours of waiting and this is not good because I am going to be out of time and only 5 hours is remaining before I can't no longuer be able install the computer (Reason is too private, sorry). I need a fast method.

What system are you trying to install XP onto? Is BIOS in AHCI mode for HDD (if so disable it).

Try http://sites.google....-xp-from-an-iso it is quite quick to make a USB drive and test (if you have Intel based chipset)

Installing on a asus computer with Intel core i7 (x54 [correctly writed: X54] compatible with x86 and x64).

Edit: I forgot to mention that the HDD is SATA and my Win XP install disk is an modified version (Only updates and one option are installed) with nLite. I don't think it made a big difference as ntldr loader have not been changed.

I checked the method of steve6375 and I won't do it because I won't wait 1 hours and 30 minutes to load and it was the first method I tried (Cancelled, too long). Only 1 hour is remaining before I stop the search and use the common method wich it will be very long, the CD-ROM. The principal reason for making it on usb is because I will use the CD probably only one time as I add content on my CD time to time (like updates) and the second was the time ( 1 hours from CD, 15 ~ 20 from USB).

So, no idea?

Hello,

I think I founded something but my computer has crashed and is no longuer able to run primary services due to 2 missing registry key. Fortunatly, I have a emergency Ubuntu system on my computer so I am currently using it and backup is running (the tool I use for backup in windows is best but one of its depencies is not running and I can't start the needed services). I will re-install my computer and it will take approximatively 2 days (I have a big stock and many updates to install). I will probably not be able to re-install the other computer due to the fact that my computer is the only one who have the data and that the other computer is not safe (possibility of infection of an unknow virus). I will tell you when my computer will be re-installed and I retake the search.

So, thanks for all your try and wait for me to complet my reinstallation.

No, the time don't come from windows. Its usb port is too slow for big load and what it was tested was the time needed to load the image in memory. But actually, if you have read my last post, the search is suspended.

I retaked the search last Tuesday. I am currently trying again with WinSetupFromUsb 0.2.3 . Maybe, I will be able to do what I am trying to do!

The thing I say I have founded didn't work due to missing files (maybe not placed at correct area) on my modified CD (ISO extracted to "C:\winlite" and it is not the computer used to create the ISO).

I will report here if the method I am retrying work.

It work! And pretty fast! The computer I have installed have fast USB! Fast USB + fast USB key = install in 15 Minutes and not in 1 hour (include first boot and install). I installed the computer correcly and now I am installing the software.

Using WinSetupFromUsb 0.2.3 is easy and fun (for me). NOTE: It may not work with VMware (used for testing) due to some problem with reconizing USB.

I keep getting an error "I: has NOT FAT FAT32 or NTFS Format and is NOT Valid" This happens with both my USB keys. The first i installed with FAT, and is a 1 gb generic, and the second is an 8gb Sandisc Cruser to which i installed NTFS.

I installed both of the disk formats via the application, allowing the application to launch them for me. Ive tried everything i can think of. Help!

Please Help ! I am trying to install xp on a dell mini 1210 from a usb. Copied xp with service pack 3 to usb using wintoflash. Then inserted usb into dell. Got dell to transfer all the files from my usb .Then started windows from my usb using disk 1 partition 3 option. When setup resumes i am asked to insert floppy disc xp sp3 into drive E. Hit ok. Then file 'asms on Windows xp home edition sp3 cd is needed. type in the path E:$WIN_NT$~LSI386 is already loaded by default but nothing happens . I try A,B,C,D,F,G,H: -Z still nothing. What am i doing or what have I done wrong? or is there another solution . I feel as if im close but not quite there yet. I have no cd drive as it is a netbook. I see a registry fix when i google search .will that work for usb?. Also tryed copy and paste e:i386 no good .

There is a much better approach.
- First boot from USB with PE or Portable XP
- Then use WinNTSetup2_x86.exe to prepare your HDD for Install of XP
- Then Reboot from HDD (3x) to Install XP on HDD

The advantage is that you never boot from USB during XP Setup
and that makes everything much more reliable and you have full control of what you are doing.
Also using a single XP Setup ISO file mounted in ImDisk Virtual drive is much more reliable
than having a bunch of XP Setup files on USB.
Transfer of the ISO file to USB is much faster and easier to maintain.
Instead of USB-stick it is much better to use Portable 2.5 inch USB-harddisk e.g. Samsung S2
As easy to carry and connect, but much higher speed and more capacity.

i found avira free personal script 2010 but it dos not work for avira professional 2013 !!! and i need something to crated driver script that i can add to my project
an other thing how can i add Portable Apps to my project ?

Hey! Great tutorial! I ve passed it till the end but then i got to a problem that I dont know how to solve... I secretly hope that the main issue could be hiddent somewhere in boot.ini file..

To problem is, that I cant boot the XP without the USB stick connected.. I ve installed the OS to Partition 3 (I think x) ) so when the NB gets to boot.ini process I have to choose HD 1 - Part 3 ... 

Then, when I finally disconnect the USB and get the OS choosing process, theres 2 MS Win XP options but the first gives me hall.dll missing error and the other one Corrupted System Files (Thats the reason why I wanted to re/install windows)

Possibly nothing .

Your BOOT.INI may need corrections, anyway.

Either post it's contents for review or read how to modify the entries in it.

Sorry i just noticed i did not type the propper windows system it is Windows XP

First use VHD_XP_Create.exe to Install XP in VHD booting with Grub4dos menu on local Harddisk.

Then copy XP VHD to USB and use USB_XP_Fix.exe to enable XP VHD booting from Grub4dos menu on USB.
