Would it be possible to make ImDisk "faking" a vendor so it looks more like a real HDD? Like making it a Seagate HDD or Western Digital HDD (or what ever brands there are). It would also be nice if a created virtual HDD would show up under Disks in the Device Manager to look more like a real disk. This is just an idea I had.

The first would be Trademark infringement and the second is not possible since ImDisk does not emulate hardware.

Winvblock and firadisk can emulate whole disks, and since they and imdisk are open source, you might be able to get them to report whatever brand you choose.

Thank you for the answer. If it is a trademark infringement I doubt that Winvblock and firedisk will add the specific disk. I just came to the idea, because I got a laptop which won't boot if I plugged in a HDD via USB (to boot while it is plugged in). The HDD is connected via a SATA / IDE to USB adapter. To still be able to use functions for some programs which needs the HDD I wanted to emulate it. So that I can in case just boot that laptop via WOL when I am not at home.

WTF?
A.) Dog hinted on opern source, meaning you could change the source code and then compile yourself.
B.) Why would the ramdisk / filedisk need to report to be a, let's say, WesternDigital, to emulate a drive with your data on?
C.) If the computer does not boot with a HDD pluged into an USB port, try fiddeling with the BIOS USB settings, check if a newer BIOS is available, which fixes the problem or get a USB expansion card.
D.) When you can boot the computer with WOL, why not simply connect the USB-HDD to that other computer and connect it as Network drive?

Like making it a Seagate HDD or Western Digital HDD

If you want to run seagate discwizard, and it doesn't detect your seagate/maxtor HD over USB, then you can try this:

What laptop do you have?
Can it boot from USB?

That specific laptop is a Fujitsu Lifebook E8310 and as far as i know it can boot from USB (I booted CEntOS 6.2 minimal and netinstall, both 32 and 64 Bit, from it).
Though I used an old USB 1.1 USB Stick for it, while this S-ATA & IDE to USB Adapter is capable of USB 2.0.

That hint with the Seagate DiscWizard was good. The laptop got a Seagate HDD installed and the new Seagate DiscWizard (version 13, based of ATIH 2010, like Acronis Western Digital Edition) detects the built-in Seagate HDD.

Glad to help, but if that was the stated problem then we could have wrapped this up earlier :)

Yeah, sorry for the confusion. The other stuff I probably need only when I am at home so I can plugin the Western Digital HDD. But now I can start backups from remote.
