I have finally decided to get a fully working copy of Hiren's, with all addons.

However, I'm having some trouble with the Mini XP.

It boots into Grub, then Hiren fine. Everything on Hiren is working as it should.

Mini XP boots into the windows loading screen, then into a BSOD with a message regarding a Failure to initalize the video card.

Has anyone seen this before, is it an easy fix?

Hi

Looks like a supporting issue to me. Most modern motherboards and almost all new laptops won't support WinXP. As a result, you may encounter BSOD when booting the system from XP based boot disks. Please specify the model of your laptop or system specs (in case of a Desktop).

Btw, "Hiren's Boot CD" is illegal and we are against the use of it. You should take a look at this project which allows you to build your own XP based boot disc - http://reboot.pro/fi...77-livexp-2012/

"Hiren's Boot CD" is illegal

Is this still an issue since it is now dead?  http://technotif.com...security-issue/

"WHAT is dead?"  Rephrase "Mainstream support ended on April 14, 2009.[4] Extended support ended on April 8, 2014.[4]

http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Windows_XP

Since posting found "Hiren’s boot cd is now legal? https://discuss.howt...now-legal/11252

"From reading Wikipedia and the Hiren page, it looks like the only commercial software that is still included is the XP PE environment plus a few extra Microsoft files and DOS utilities.

Since Microsoft isn't going to be supporting XP anymore, and they could have easily shut down Hiren years ago, and haven't, I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore.

My original objection was that it contained a lot of pirated commercial software, but it looks like they've slowly but surely move away from that and only provide freeware or trials of software, and now it's basically clean, other than the Win PE base.

Going to look into this a little more. I might have to change my mind about it."

"Mini xp is in there. It on the other hand does not allow full options in it. only the basic and even to that extent it is limited. It is a great tool for recovery if your hard drive crashes. I have only used a few of the programs in the hirens boot cd. They work wonders for me when I repair computers."  Agree

Does anyone know of a better "Windows Repair CD"

Ken

End of support does not mean "free".

End of support does not mean "redistributable"

End of support does not mean "Public Domain".

End of support means "End of support", nothing more, nothing less, it has changed NOTHING related on whether the miniXP (or any other non-redistributable file)  is redistributable or not (it is not).

XP is Microsoft's intellectual property. They only chooses to stop patching the OS via updates and never said that anyone can redistribute XP or it's components without permission. Do you know that redistributing "MS DOS" is still illegal ?.

Btw, XP is not really dead. MS still sell and supports a variant of XP Professional called "Windows XP POS ready".
