Anyone has tried SPAT 6.0.9 yet?

6.0.7.9 was not a good version in my case. Hope 6.0.9 doesn't have those problems.
The older version erased some entries in autorun section...

I used it yesterday.

I cloned my Pentium 4 to an Athlon and Athlon X2. No problem at all using ghost32.exe

Has anyone tried this on ImageX.exe?

@vazurahan,

Did your image work with DriverPacks?
What application/script did you use during mini-setup installation?
I'd like to use DriverPacks too, I prefer it to SkyDriver/PowerDriver myself.

Thanks in advance

Nope, I didn't use Driver Packs only Sky Driver 11.

I only used Driver Packs for the textmode Mass Storage Drivers.
The problem I faced with driverpacks is that if you use method 2 it still will extract the files to drive C: about 2.5GB if you include all the drivers, then scan for drivers for a very loooonnggggg time. Then delete those 2.5GB drivers later.
Unlike Sky Driver that scans drivers inside the 7zip files.

I used latest Spat 6.0.9 Final and Sky Driver 11 XP Plus with no other scripts other than the launcher of Sky Driver 11.

Ok this how I did it.

First I slipstreamed Service Pack 3 to my XP CD using nLite.

Then slipstreamed latest updates for SP3 XP http://xable.net/dl/...k-SP3-v2.0.2.7z using nLite.

Added DriverPacks' textmode Mass Storage Drivers.

Install that CD to my PC to make a fresh XP.

Installed apps, etc.

Run Spat 6.0.9, then it will create a sysprep folder at C:

Copy contents of Sky Driver to sysprep folder

Click 'Select all' on Spat.

Include Sky Driver on minisetup

then Reseal

then clone it to a PC you want. Tested it using ghost 11.5 and Easeus Todo Backup

Todo Backup get errors on registration but the imaging actually works.

That's pretty much it,

You could always try this: http://users.telenet...ghostresq01.htm

I haven't tested it, but it makes some sense.

Update on my experience with the universal images:

I have been using Acronis 2010 to create my images. I have every version of Windows XP x86 and x64, all vista x86 and x64, as well as all 7 x86 and x64 versions saved to my external HDD. Me being the nerd I am, I created a grub4dos menu system to boot the Acronis ISO straight off of the external. I then simply browse to my external from wtihin Acronis' restore menu, lay the image down. Activate Windows. Poof, done. In some rare cases I have had to use parted magic to stretch the partition to the correct size. My images were created in VirtualBox on a 25GB hdd. This mostly happens with XP. Once Vista or 7 booted up, you can stretch the partition from within Windows itself.

In a couple of very rare cases (Sony Vaio is famous for this), the images would not boot at all or you would get the notorious 0x0000007B BSOD. This is caused by some weird chipsets and that way they handle the SATA controller. If you use a good driver pack, you might be able to circumvent this altogether.

I won't get into the creation of the Grub4dos menu system as that is a topic for another thread and there are some great tutorials on here.

Asalaam-o-Alaikum

Dear,

i m new to this site and novice computer user, actually i wana make my ghost image which can work on any computer, for that, i searched through internet and found shirin zaban article interesting and quite simple for the user like me, while reading that article, i found ur tips regarding that which also find quite impressive and the best thing is that u r from my homeland that is why i m going to contact u for some learning process.

I shall be very much thankful if u let me know the full process of making universal ghost image file in detail and easy to use steps/process along with the required softwares which will be needed to make that image file.

i shall be very thankful to u in advance dear

Muhammad Faisal Humeri

very nice tutorial , just few things to add up ,

1. do not use hard coded path i.e C:\sysprep\file.exe , instead use ,

%systemdrive%\sysprep\file.exe .

this way , it becomes universal, and yes i have tested it in the past with these kind of tools ( yes there are at least 3 more tools like this one :) )

2. the skydriver archive got updated on 22th March 2010 along with the core exe and everest driver. , you shared the one from from early 2009 .

3. you did not mention the patch which takes care of dual core issue in xp sp3 . it is stand alone patch made by YLMF in early 2008 i guess by the name of DualCorePatch.exe .

4. if you need to save space or to make gho image tiny , there is a method to pack program files folder in 7z , delete the one from your system drive and pace sfx file in sysprep folder , which you can call later during mini setup.

To Shirin Zaban ,

This thread may be a long while back but I came across this just yesterday. I have faced problems which maybe you can enlighten me. I have created a universal XP pro using your method. It works on all major brands of notebook like DELL, ACER, FUJITSU, COMPAQ BUT not for IBM, LENOVO and HP.

What happens is that after ghosting the image on the harddisk and starting the notebook, a cursor just appears and blinks. But for brands like DELL, ACER, FUJITSU or COMPAQ it will load into windows.

Any idea what could be the issue ?

Thanks and awaiting your kind reply.

Yes.
http://homepage.ntlw...no-answers.html

:whistling:

Lenovo, IBM, and some HP use a BIOS that maps the internal hard disk as having 240 heads instead of 255.

This results with some bootsector code into an UNbalanced CHS/LBA that creates the issue.

See here for some details (and possible workarounds/fixes):
