Is it possible to tag a particular post in a topic with *SOLVED* icon (or text) next to it - if so how? This would be handy for anyone looking at a topic which is an issue/bug report and trying to find the post which shows the solution without having to wade through all of the posts to find the one with the answer? We can currently tag with Post icons (like the blue ? on this one) but they do not seem to be very meaningful or useful to me? For instance, why not change them to icons for

Bug report
Solved/Solution
Off Topic/Aside
Star Rating (people can 'digg' a particular post to show it was useful for them)
(probably some more ...)

and make the Post icons selection radio buttons visible all the time so people are reminded to choose an appropriate one for their post. Also put text next to the icons to help people understand their meaning?

I like your request and I've seen something similar in action on yahoo answers where the topic author can press a button at that reply topic to signal that his question was answered.

It is difficult for me to implement such request given our present lack of resources.

However, we do have a bright community of developers where some might be interested in volunteering.

How about if I create three new forum sections inside this one to organize volunteer effort?

- One specifically for proposing new requests from users such as yourself
- Another where the administrators writes a proposal for the feature implementation and requests volunteers
- Finally, we add a forum section where ongoing features are developed/discussed until they are completed (or not).

This way we can discuss proposals before writing down what is really desired/accepted. Interested volunteers can sign up for tasks that they feel at ease in completing. We'll track their progress and provide feedback as needed.

We had a few requests from sambul61 that require PHP coding but neither of us can fulfill the requests nor IPB seems motivated to make anything.

At least this way we can occasionally send by newsletter the "job openings" and perhaps get some of the proposed features (like yours) implemented.

I can second both ideas: SOLVED is really good proposal, and monitoring & sorting out & seeking programming help is obviously needed.

As a temporary fix, can you change one of the post icons to a solved icon and also make it easier to find the post icons by making the default the full editor with posy icons shown?


The OP could then ask the person who gave the full answer to mark his/her post with the solved icon - or - the OP could write a new post saying 'the answer(s) that solved this problem can be found here <link> and here <link>' and mark that post with the SOLVED icon so anyone looking for the answer can quickly find it?
