Hi there,

I bought a Sandisk Cruzer Edge USB-stick with 16GB.( http://www.sandisk.d.../?capacity=16GB ) BIG MISTAKE..!

Looks like (because of some weird Win8 compatibility) it got no removable media bit set and

it is detected as fixed harddrive.

Unetbootin can't detect the USB-stick neither under fixed disks and USB-drives and now I sit

here under Win7 x64 ultimate and can't prepare a stick to boot Ubuntu or similar distro.

Any idea what do to? I can't find any tool to set that removable media bit. It got VID: 0781 PID: 556B

regards

So 'Show all drives' doesn't work?

I think youre problem is the Sandisk Secure Access Manager.

Google to check.

Sandisk has a removal tool.

The U3 drives used to be the same for which there is also a removal tool.

Hope this helps.

Interestingly, that option is missing in unetbootin-windows-585.exe (german UI):

Funny enough, I could copy the Kali-Linux ISO with "Universal-USB-Installer" to the stick and it also boots on my PC without a prob. Sandisk-support stated that the "fixed disk"-sticks can't boot at all... very sad if the tech-support has no idea how their stuff works, or is meant to work.

Nope, that isn't the fault, I never used that tool... first thing I done was to format the stick, no SanDisk crap on there anymore. It's recognized as fixed disk, not removable memory, that's the main prob.

Try Easy2Boot and RMPrepUSB instead?
