IMO the only way would be to use DDC to query the monitor directly. But unfortunatelly that is not supported by Win API,
Wrong idea. You have to query the graphics card driver, not the monitor, for the max. resolution.

Simply because max. resolution is the highest resolution supported by both monitor and graphics card.

btw. It works again! ;)

I did not tell the opposite. I agree to that.

The only statement I gave, is:

On an unknown monitor you cannot use Windows functions which use stored monitor EDID values. You must use DDC to query the actual monitor values.

Question:  When I use this script, it generates the SetMaxResolution.exe program.  My AV is currently flagging it as containing "a variant of Win32/Injector.Autoit.XY trojan". Is this an expected AV hiccup, or has there been an unexpected alteration in the script?
